hey guys, im getting an 8 lug dana 44 and i was wondering, on ebay there are new in box lockers for dana44s. im considering getting one, will this locker fit in every dana 44, like a jeep or ferd and chevy? or is there a special one for each differnt dana 44?

thanks

Lockers.

The Dana 44's are all made by one company (Dana Spicer) , so one should fit any other one. If you ever look at a locker catalog, you'll see they're listed by what type of axle, and not what vehicle it came in.

If it were a 10 bolt axle you would have to specify whether it was 28 or 30 spline. I think all the stock Dana 44's are all 28 spline shafts so it shouldn't matter :)

thanks, thats what i thought i just wanted to make sure there wasnt a difference between the full width d44 and the smaller d44.

Really need to know what "locker" you are talking about to answer you completely.
As said above most Dana 44 diff's will interchange from housing to housing reguardless of what it came from originally but there are things to look for.
Examples : Gear ratio split of case 3.73 and down / 3.90 and up
Spline count of the side gear 30 spline / 19 spline
Some older diff's used different carrier bearings
Tell us what you are looking at with full description and than you will know for sure before you spend your money on something that might not work .

There are some earlier Dana 44 models that had different spline counts, but they were also used in different vehicles like Jeeps, etc...

I'm not sure why the one guy brought up 10-bolts and then started talking about 28-spline axles. As far as I know, all Dana 44's used in Chevy trucks were 30-spline.
