I ordered axle/hub gaskets from autozone for my 14bff and the things that came in are the shape I expected except made all out of aluminum or something. I know most guys just glob it up with RTV, but on my CUCV I've been happy with the felpro type gaskets I have, and then I can pull everything apart without dealing with the mess. Anyway, anyone used these? I'm skeptical they will do the job unless the mating surfaces are perfect, or I use RTV anyway.

I've got them on my 70HD, love 'em cause they're reuseable.

should not need rtv . all faces dry and bolt it tight.

if anytime rtv was used always check the the bolt holes in the hub for extra rtv that can blow out the hub casting if bolt tightened in place.

I was running these for a while on mine with zero hub leaks (I just pulled the axles to swap gears). I bough a set of new ones to put on when I am done. As long as you clean the mounting surfaces with a scraper then use some brake-cleaner, then tighten the bolts to the correct torque, I have had better luck with the metal gaskets than either the felt or RTV.

Newer GM's come from the factory with them as well....

Lord knows they work better for headers than paper. At least the 'dead soft' variety I have. Makes sense they'd hold up in lower pressure.

I agree. I like the aluminum header gaskets.

Had no idea they make them for axle seals and such.

I've reused the factory shim things many times, never clean them off, leave dirt all over them, no leaking problems
