List all the things to get the most out of a 87 Blazer. bumper to bumper what can you do.

Remove radiator cap, replace everything, reinstall radiator cap.

You couldn't have asked a more open ended question :doah:

Ok everybody a comedian LOL. How about we start with bolt on upgrades.

just go to DIY4X, ORD, NWF, etc, etc and put 1 of everything in the cart...

ummm, lockers, tires, winch, doubler, gears, yada, yada... the list is beyond endless...

I looked up the word VAGUE in the dictionary and it pointed me to this thread. :D LoL..

I think what you are asking is more along the line of “where can I start modifying an 87 blazer?" Do you have the truck now or are you planning to buy that model year? What is your vision for the project? Restoration, or full on beast?
You can always start with the basics, these truck are very easy to work on. You need a good platform to start modifying. So start with making sure its a good running truck, no mechanical problems (check hoses, vacuum lines, replace all fluids) Then address any areas that need work (example breaks, new tie rod ends, or new cab mounts). Once this is done, you have a pretty blank canvas. Do not forget to check the wiring, older truck can be pretty chopped up in this area.
You can always do bigger/better axles, tires, lift, cage, new interior do herculiner, new steering wheel.
The list is really endless...add a kill switch some where in the cab so the truck cannot be stolen. Spend time reading the board; you will get some good ideas. Others have said and I agree it all depends on your wallet and how deep it is.
Do not overlook pick n pull yards as a good source for parts.
good luck
Matt

Crap sorry...this was supposed to be a lets compile mod ideas thread. I did not see that you have a ton of trucks!

I know this question was vague but I have been away from offroading for a long time (Military) and have forgot most of our little shade tree tricks.

I'm not a newbie to this or this site just never post very often. I though I would ask the question and someone would link me to a tread where it has a list of items to do that has been asked time and time again. I know "use the search engine" I did and look through numerous threads and did not find what I was looking for.

To the ones who actually tried to help thank you.

To the others it's cool to joke and yes it was funny (I laughed to) but you could follow up the joke with a link or some input.

You still haven't really asked a question yet.

Are you looking for something that's good in the rocks? Good in the mud? Do you want to run 35" tires or 53" tires?

If you give us some info we can give you some answers.

A little more info

You are right 38377. I guess what I'm looking for are more general information for Example.

Bolt on tips tricks and upgrades for the motor, tranny etc. or Do's and Dont's list. What gave you more HP gains? I remember a long time ago (from this site) someone sent me a list of upgrades for a stock blazer. It covered each area of the rig on the motor for example. Fuel injection options, exhaust, air, updated products for the blazer and so on. I wish I could find it on here. This was about 5 years ago.

I have 5 rigs as of yesterday 1 for rocks only (in progress) 3 that are really nice and in great shape with everything done except they have stock axles. And one that is going to be nice but strong built for everything. I will be selling 2 rig soon to help fund the others. I want to have 1 for rocks and 2 that I have built from the ground up that are for everything but rocks. I have started with these 2 already.

I'm a old shade tree mechanic and just have been out of date with any mods available that can make life easier. I watch extreme 4x4 and laugh at all the brand new stuff they have donated and what it cost to build a rig on the show. I get my stuff from local people that do what I do we make good trades or deals where everyone is happy.

This forum has always been a life saver for me when building these things.

I still dont see where you want to go...

you can go with lowring leafs and shackles and stick some dubbs under dere :haha:

or 15" leafs, rockwells, 54" boggers, 560 BB supercharged

all in all... you will find the gammet here but.. what do you want to do?

example...

just to show you the year interchangeability

my truck
1978 chevy
1979 gm d60 front
1976 cadillac eldorado rear disc calipers
1987 front clip
1984 bed
1991 caprice police 350 2 bolt
1996 tahoe vortec heads
1989 olds 88 relay pack (8 relays / 16 fuses)
1985 Jimmy hydro clutch setup
1988 chevy bench seat

now you do mention bolt ons for power... how much of a gain do you want?

I think since you are an old school mechanic you know there is no replacement for displacement.... bigger is better..... in either motor and or cam

although that doesnt always play when talking about lift.... yeah 15" lift and 54" boggers are better at boggs.. but maybe not for just trails and rocks.......

write down your goal and tell us... :wink1:

As said what do you want out of your truck?
Do you want a DD /weekend warrior?
Offroad trail rig?
All out truggy?
Mall queen, Ricer killer or what?
Unless you tell us your vision for your truck we cant help much.
Until then. I will stick with the twin turbo, and add some 22" Rims and spinners plus a nice wing.

Let us know what your interest are with the truck,as said above, and then find out what part of the truck you want to modify, tear apart or just upgrade first. If the suspension is the first part you want to focus on then search the site for 1 ton upgrades, shackle flips, bigger tires, gearing, etc. Or questions about engine mods or upgrades. No one here is bashing you but it is just funny when we all get veeeerrrrrry vague questions like this. Just be specific with the area of work you want to do. I have gained infinite knowledge buy asking fairly specific questions and doing a search of questions. If you want to know about upgrading your D44 to 8lug 3/4ton then search "8lug " or whatever. Very simple and very good info. good luck with the search.

Beautiful thing about these trucks: There are as many different "visions" of them as there are people who own them.

You do mention one of them is for rocks, you like horsepower mods, and that you've turned a few wrenches in your time...

Rocks: Do the 56 inch leaf swap on the front, 4 inch shackle flip in the rear, extend/relocate the shock mounts. Put in a 14b FF in the back and an 8 lug D44 (60 if budget allows) with detroit lockers, buy some good size tires (38"+) trim the fenders to fit, and gear accordingly. Get a doubler kit from ORD and do that if budget allows. The 56 inch spring swap is a really nice mod that's discussed extensively on here and is, I think, the kind of thing you're looking for when you say "tricks and tips". Crossover steering is another good project, in fact, required as part of the spring swap I think...

HP: Big block. If cost and/or gas mileage is an issue, there are a million ways to build the sh*t out of a small block these days. Vortec if you're not afraid of the electronics (I am!)
