A friend of mine is broke down in Alberta, Canada heading to Alaska. He has a 2002 2500 with a Duramax and an Allison. The service guy told him he needs a $1000 solenoid for his transmission. Does this sound right? I don't know anything about Allisons.

I don't know if it is parts and labor. This is the email I got.

Just got the call from the service center - needs a new solenoid. $1000 for an after market one - supposed to be fast shipped out of Edmonton & here tomorrow. Hope it does! The other choice was one direct from GMC for $2000 & we wait for 2 weeks at the campground.

If they have to pull it to install it that would be about right.
I paid 500 to r&r mine when it was new just to upgrade it. And that was a deal from a good friend that I've know for years.

Where is he at?

If he is anywhere near Edmonton, tell him to call Ross at Personal Transmission Services (780-466-7441). He is by far the best transmission guy I know in the city (lived there most of my life) and if he doesn't have the part, he will know where to get one, and probably at a better price too.

If you require any help, please call me at 780-297-0869 and I will do what I can to get him hooked up with someone in Edmonton who can give him a hand (including but not limited to hauling the truck into Edmonton so Ross can fix it up)

Ross is open on Saturdays, but he takes a long lunch break, so call him around 10 or around 2 :haha:

What is he going to do in AK? If he needs anything once he gets here, assuming he is going to Anchorage, have him call me. 907-317-0950

Brian

It cost $960 for the repairs with $500 of it for parts. They were doing 9% grades pulling their trailer.
