I finally got my new motor in and had it running in the garage. I was on the creeper looking for one of those fabulous exhaust leaks that cam be heard but never found and saw smoke when I looked up between the frame and engine. ( I had the hood off ) The Hayden electric fan control module I instaleed earlier today decided to erupt into flames. Thank goodness for the wet towels I had handy. I had just installed my :bow:CK5.com:bow: sticker on the windshield and had wet towels from drying off the front half of the truck from the rain.

So, my question is, anyone else ever had one of these blow up before? pt#3647.

Let me add that this was working flawlessly earlier today. I had let the truck cool off to tighten exhaust bolts and was rechecking for leaks. Which is still there too.:(

I've had several of that "style" fail in the past. I would suggest using a standard temp switch along with a quality relay and forget about it being adjustable.

I was just trying to figure out why my fuseable links in my dual Derale fans kept melting. Turns out it's a crappy design and there's too much interference at the fuse holder, thus melting the things out.

Your situation sounds like that controller wasn't up to the amp draw your fans were demanding. You going to try and return that unit on warranty?

This was years ago and the controller came with the fans. I ditched the controller finally and just installed a standard temp switch that turned on at a given temp and off at a given temp and no more issues. This was on a prior vehicle that was stolen but as long as i had it the thing was still working.

Nope, got my moolah back and installed the good old manual switch. I am running a Ford Supercoupe fan that I had on an old mustang. 2 speeds and off with a manual switch runing thru a relay. It nevr failed so I will use it until it does. Guess that's what I get for getting hi tech.

I don't know why it ran great all day and then smoked all of the sudden.
