85 C30 454 carbed/465.

When I get in and start the truck everything does exactly what it's supposed to.
When I shut the key back off (holding the brake and clutch) everything shuts off the way it's supposed to, except the engine.

I have to release the brake and then it dies.....? :dunno:

Then the other day I hooked up my car hauler and realized the brakes were dragging just a little bit.
Thought maybe it had to do with adjustment.

Looked at the controller and it had a code that comes out as 'power loss during braking'

For the hell of it I pulled that emergency trailer brake plug at the trailer to see if there was a short there........
And my factory, auxiliary cooling fan at the radiator came on lol.
Plug the cable back it, it shut off, pulled it out and fan came back on :doah:

At this point I'm thinking something to do with the brake controller. Even though it has worked fine for a while now.

Just interesting and thought I'd share Incase anyone else had had the issue too .

I'll update after further investigation

First thought is bad ground somewhere.
Otherwise you might have a constant power lead touching a switched lead and keeping both on all the time.
But my bet is on a ground

I have had similar symptoms with a bad ground connection at the spot above the parking brake pedal.

What's odd to me is everything works totally normal, except the engine not shutting down, and that trailer brake.
My plan for today was to unplug the trailer brake controller. So I'll look at the ground in that area while im in there.

I have also had a bad headlight switch keep the engine running. The headlight switch was what killed the ignition lol

I think my brake controller fried.

Wires were all done recently and seem fine.
Unplug the controller and the truck shuts off like it's supposed to now.
It's been in there a couple months with no issue. Even used the trailer a few times.
No idea other than shorted inside it somewhere.
