Hi Guys
It's been a while since my last post ( and yes I'm still not a member yet, but will be someday) I've got my truck just about done from building my engine from scratch, redoing the interior, a axle swap, lift, tires..... it's all been a great project. I even got to go out and play in it last weekend ( and Stuck it) BTW it's a 79 blazer 350 350 203np. 14 bolt rear with richmond locker, dana 44 front 4.10 gears all 8 lug, on 37" goodyear MT's. lift is about 6"+. Well it's fun and I am greatful for all the help you guys have given me. But i have a question. I feel like I should have more power, maybe not but if i stomp it I can't even peel out. When i was out this weekend making my own trails I got stuck BAD. while trying to get her free a couple of guys there suggested i put it in low gear I told them I was already in low gear. They said the say i was romping I should have been spinning the tires like hell but they wern't really. It does fine down the highway and shifts fine, but could the tranny or transfer case or torque converter be bad or dragging or slipping or just old and weak tell me what you think. Thanks guys!

Were you in low gear on the transmission or the transfer case?

My old '79 K20 had 4.56 gears with 38's and the engine was trash, but it could still spin the tires fast when my transfer case was in low range.

Is the engine stock? What engine is it (HP rating wise)? My buddy has a 77 with the same drive train and same problem. You are probably going to find out that you need more gear, more motor, or both. 410's aren't bad, but they are used from the factory with a 30-31 inch tire. You are trying to turn a 37" tire with the same gearing and allot of weight.

Well to answer some questions the motor is brand new I built it from the bearings up, parts cam all numbers calculated it should have 300-350 hp, maybe 250 to the wheels. I believe you are right on the gearing i wanted 4.56 or even lower but i got these axles for $150 with the gears in them kinda hard not to run them for a bit like they are. stock 31's and 3.08 gears are almost the same as 4.10's and 37 according to the calculators. Well at least i can stop looking into the transmission transfer case for problems. thanks guys
