I looked at three Blazers today and the one I liked the most was a 1981. The Vin decodes as a 305 block but the owner says it is a 350. What can I do to verify what is under the hood.

Secondly, the test drive was decent for a truck that has been sitting for at least several months. However, when I floored it the truck seemed to hesitate a bit, which leads me to believe it will definitely need a tune up, but I don't think this is an indication of 305 versus 350... What do you think?

Thanks,
Louie

find the nubmers on hte back of the block behind the drivers valvecover....these will tell you the year, what it came out of, number of bolts on the main.

PICS!?1

Isn't the block the same on a 350 versus a 305? I thought the differences were the heads and crank (shorter stroke, meaning higher RPMs). Was I absent for this subject in Auto Shop?? lol.

Sounds to me like a motor that at least needs tuned , and have someone besides the previous owner touch the carb :thumb:

Same crank , smaller bores , its still oversquare ( large bore than stroke ) and would of revved if they would of included a better set of heads , ehaust , and intake

in newer blocks ( 68-85 ) of importance to us 302/327/350 is same block :D
