i had a issue with my truck running funky and i took off egr vacume line now it runs pretty good so i will put new egr and egr control on. but i got a "shock" when i touched part of the front fender....wtf? should i put ground wires on other parts of the truck? if u look at my other post the fuel pump and dash would stay on and drain the battery. so i want to try the ground thing and see if it helps.....when i had it running i did see when i hit the gas it looked like the volts would drop a little... what could that be? seems to run fine tho but it does need egr and stuff on...any ideas? its a 1990 k5 with tbi 350.
 
well, sounds to me like you have an ignition component grounding out, maybe a plug wire chafed through, though that wouldnt account for the battery drain. That would account for the poor running. Unplugging the EGR just gave you a vacuum leak and bumped up the idle, I dont think the EGR is your problem, because IIRC it isnt flowing at idle.

In any case you have something grounding out and I would bet that is causing your running problem.
 
Ok, read through some of your old posts sounds like you got nothing but wiring problems going on.

If your fender is shocking you, 12v is getting to the body somehow. How I am not really sure, could be anywhere. Ive traced some odd problems before only to find something as stupid as a loose ground wire. Anyway, in an old post someone told you to disconnect the batt cable, hook in test light and start pulling fuses to eliminate the drain. All you said was that it didnt work, did that mean the light never went off or that it was never on?
 
The 12v system does not have enough juice to shock you. I can take my hand and put it across the batt terminals and... nothing. You got shocked by the ignition. Bad plug wires or a poorly grounded block or both.

Negative batt cable should go directly to the block, a clean connection too. An old, corroded, frayed cable should be replaced too. Clean the block where the cable will ground, use some sand paper or a sanding disc on a die grinder. Use a clean bolt or a new one. Use some dielectric grease on the connection to prevent future corrosion.

There should also be a braided ground strap from the back of the pass side cyl head to the firewall. Clean connections there also.

One more ground wire from the neg batt cable to the rad support. Clean connections there too.

Start there.

I shock myself all the time on my fenders. Try wetting your hands or laying a sweaty arm across your battery. You'll change your mind
 
I've been fried by the 12V batteries in my diesel a number of times as well! Definitely enough there to give ya a bit of a tingle!
 
Yeh Ive caught one through my belt buckle before when I was supermanned up over the fender (damn top post batteries).
 
I had sparks jump from my privates to the zipper in my pants,to the fender once when I touched a spark plug wire that had burned through on a hot exhaust manifold one night--HEI can jump almost an inch on a dark rainy night I soon learned!...YEEE-AAAAAHHHH!!..:eek:..woke me RIGHT up!..

I'm in the "12 volts CAN shock you" club too--I've gotten a good zap when my elbows touched the positive terminal on one of my diesels batteries too,had single battery systems give me a tingle or zap in hot weather when I was sweaty...I remember well my friend sticking his finger in my lighter socket one night in hopes of scraping some corrosion off the clips inside the socket so the lighter might work,and I saw smoke come out and he screams in pain--I scoffed and said "your nuts,12 volts cant burn you"...so what does he do??--he grabs MY hand and shoves my finger in the socket and proved me wrong--I got a nasty burn from that dam thing!...

I also learned the hard way not to hold an electric choke element in your bare hands when your testing it on a battery to see if its working..I had a nice spiral spring coil burn mark branded into my palm for about 2 months!..:doah:..
 
ok by adding all these new ground straps will this hurt anything? it has the body to right head there. so just add some added grounds?
 
I mainly wrote that so you could check all the grounds that are supposed to be there, and if they are not then add them. Also, if they are there, to check them and make sure they are in good condition and clean.
