I was planning to coat the bottom of the Jimmy with some Al's liner this weekend, but it rained this morning and we are supposed to get some more. Right now the humidity is at 90% but even on a sunny day in MS the humidity is 80% or more. There is no mention of temperature or humidity in the instructions, and the only information that I can find on the subject says that the higher humidity will make the coating cure faster. Thanks!

All I know is that stuff cured fast when I sprayed it at ~45RH. so better plan to get it all sprayed and the gun cleaned in under 20 minutes. It's activated so once it's started, there's no stopping it.

I rolled/painted it on. Yeah, definitely would not recommend doing that.

I thought I had it all planned good. I had all my stuff together ready to go. I set a timer for 15 minutes from the time I started mixing. I planned out my painting areas. Well, that all went right to sh*t. Once I heard the timer go off and I still had half of my first batch (I mixed a quart the first time) it was just a free for all to try to get as much as I could on. I cut the next couple batches in half but still wasn't ideal.

I'm confident that the protection will be good, it just looks sloppy as hell. Trying to work around the frame and other obstacles like I did just made it to be a huge pain in the ass. Again, no complaints with the product other than a 20 minute pot life is way too short, for rolling on anyway.

If you plan on rolling it on, you might want to look into Monstaliner. Started coating the inside of my truck with it and I'm really impressed so far. Also has a pot life of a couple hours once it's activated.

This is all under the truck so I'm not too concerned with it. Just as long as it keeps the rust away.

I do plan on having the inside of the tub done too and that will definitely get sprayed.

Gotcha, wish I had the means to spray it on but the roll on is coming out pretty decent. Hope its not to hummid to finish up when I get back home.

With a couple hours of pot life I think you'll be good. Wish I had know about the monstaliner earlier, I probably would've gone with that. Al's seemed to be the what everyone on here likes, so I take that into consideration. I'm sure they'll all do what I want it to do.

Where in LA are you?

I read a lot of good reviews on the heep forums about the monstaliner so I went with it, only time will tell how it really holds up.
Madisonville, just north of New Orleans.

I think they should do fine down in our neck of the woods. No road salt to deal with, just sandy dirt.

Got ya. I got my 6.0/4l80e combo from a guy in Baton Rouge. You're only about a 3 hour drive from me. I'm in the Jackson areas.

From what I understand Al's is to be used for interior so hopefully that is what you meant. if you are going on the bottom of the truck as you said you might want to try something that has a polyurethane finishe like raptor or monster liner. Humidty should not affect it so much as paint but I'd give it a good 24 hours to set up before you start bolting stuff back on to it or driving it around, especially if it is wet, raining, or a lot of standing water.

I've never heard of Al's being intended for just the interior. That seems kinda of contradictory to make a bedliner coating that can't be applied to an exterior bed.

I've already finished applying it anyway, so too late to change now ha! I posted some of thes pics in the body shop page under "think this will last." It shows some of my start to finish of my rust repair. Here are some of the finished bedliner, kind of sloppy in places, but I think it'll do good.

I guess it depends on what product you are using to be fair. At the time I got my stuff all they really had was the HNR but it looks like they've expanded into regular liners so hopefully that's what you rusing. If not the HNR is definitely not undercoat.

A shop I worked for was a ppg dealer and carried the raptor liner for all of their bed liner use. I gotta say it's really a great product. I have never used als liner. I stuck with raptor after seeing them tint it to match several paint jobs. That is what set it apart from the others to me. If you want black then any will work I guess but if you want to color match the liner there are only a couple out there that come tintable. I have used it for all sorts of applications and even extremely high wear locations it has held up well. Pot life is longer than most and a kit comes with everything needed to shoot it on.

Looks like you've coated already...great job! Don't know if your gumbo is the same along the river like it is in the North Delta, but just find a big enough water hole and drive through it. Once it dries....it ain't comin' off. Kind of like love bug guts too, ha.

I lived in Oxford for 7 yrs. The humidity killed me, was good to get back here to CO. I'll take a wet day in CO over a dry day in Oxford, ha. I've never seen moss grow on asphalt until I moved there.

Our house was rarely open. Either the heat pump or A/C was on. During the summer, I ran two de-humidifiers at night, one on each floor, to pull the moisture out of the house in order to get the relative humidity down to a comfortable (for me) level. Otherwise I would be running the indoor temp around 65F. So the de-humidifiers would pull the water out, the A/C would pull the heat out and what moisture was left, ha.

So...with all that said. When I did any sheet metal work on my '77, I moved one of the de-humifiers into the garage.

Thanks! Rolling/painting it on is definitely a chore. One I do not want to repeat.

From my understanding Al's is just the DIY version of the raptor, (same company) even though raptor has its own DIY version now. I think Al's only comes in 3 different colors (white, black, grey) so if you want a more custom color then the raptor is what you want. It is definitely not the HNR, though.

I love CO. We go to Steamboat Springs every year for Musicfest. I'll take a cold winter day in CO than I will in MS. Zero degrees in CO feels better than 40 degrees in MS. Being wet all the time sucks!

I have a coworker that was talking to me about using the Upol Raptor liner to coat his 1995 Suburban and it was amazing because he was telling me he was thinking he was going to need to get a better compressor because all he had was a pancake compressor for doing home remodeling. Well, he went home on a Tuesday and when he came back Wednesday morning his eyes were all red and he looked tired as hell and I was asking him what was up and he was like, oh I put the Upol on my truck last night and didn't finish until like 4 in the morning.... I went out and checked it out and I was amazed at the finish. Just totally blown away what you can do for 300 bucks. He had gotten the 6 liter kit that was black, but rest assured, once it comes time I am going to get the same kind of kit except I want to get the color match kit, so I can change mine to silver. I figure I will get the 4 bottle kit that can be tinted for the body, and then get an additional bottle of black for the top, and then all my bumpers and trim decor I am going to have blacked out, as much as possible. I just need to find out of the door handles and trim pieces around the wheel arches can be powder coated or painted black... Maybe with a wrinkle finish

@travischasez Had a picture up in another thread of his whole truck done in the scorpion/Al's and it looks awesome. Every time I see one done well like that I consider doing the whole exterior. I think once it comes time to do the interior I'm going to use it, in the same dark grey he did, and have some along the rockers.

If it ever came down to doing a rattle can vs a bedliner paint job the bedliner is going to win hands down for me.

I think the general consensus has been raptor, Al's,
/scorpion, monstaliner are all good choices; haven't seen too many good things said about duplicolor or DuPont (one of those) bedliner. I think herculiner has mixed reviews. I've seen some good and bad comments about it.
