Going to order the Als Liner Kit for the bed of my truck. Wondering if I should get it with the gun or without. From some of the reviews ive read the gun is junk?

What do you guys recommend/used?

I'd like to know too. I called a local Al's Liner Dealer and the guy I talked to told me about using it on one of his projects. First of all, he said the Al's Liner was one of the best liners ever and he'd use it regardless of being a dealer.

I asked about the gun, because it looks to be a similar gun to the one HF sells. He said it wasn't anything special, but didn't really comment too much when I mentioned skipping it and getting the one from HF for 12 bucks. For me this is going to be a one time job (maybe two if I keep my other truck) and I don't see buying the Al's gun as the same investment as I usually do with more expensive tools.

I heard the hf one works fine. I would get that instead because they are prolly trying to sell you the same one for $40 or something. Also idk how pricy the als liner is but i went with the Liner Xtreeme stuff from sprayonbedliners.info and its awesome stuff and way cheaper price than alot ive seen for how much you get.

Post pics and your review when done. That's on my to do list as well. I was thinking a coat of the heat and sound one, then the regular Als Liner. But I gotta close up all the holes first.

This is my plan, hopefully in the next 30 days or so, otherwise I'll probably wait until next July or August when it warms up again.

Just put my order in at autoanything.com They seem to be the cheapest but only by a few cents.. plus they had free ground shipping. Going to harbor freight tomorrow morning to buy there gun.

anyone got any tips/pointers or techniques they would like to share?

I'm looking at putting Al's Heat and Noise Reducer (HNR) down and the Al's Liner over the top of that. This is just a plan right now, but I'm almost positive this is the route I'll go. I do have a question for anyone who can answer though. According to the a
Al's website:

1 Gallon of Al's HNR at 31 mm thickness will cover 44 sq/ft

1 Kit of Al's Liner will cover how many sq/ft? I cannot find any specific answer from Al's
website or on the web stating how many sq/ft would be covered by 1 kit.

and last question... 87 K5... anyone have an estimate how many sq/ft the interior of a K5 is spraying up the firewall to bottom of dash, ailgate and up the rear sidewall panels all the way to the lower edge of the cap?

Thanks!

Length X Width, in feet, of each surface (floor, sides, tailgate). Add together and you have square footage.

While we're at it, anyone do the Rubber Crumb additive? How is it?

Sprayed my bed today. I used the harbor freight gun with a medium tip at about 45 psi at the gun. This stuff is stinky and gets EVERYWHERE :eek1: but so far I love it! Looks great and was easy to spray for the most part. I ran out when I was halfway so I got to order another kit :doah:

Pics to come

You think it's stinky doing a bed ........... Try using it as undercoating, when you are essentially working in a tent :doah: :doah: even worse was doing my K5 in my garage on my back :doah:

I know it's a little late now, but the HF gun IS the same one ALs sells, they do "mod" the tip with a 5 hole set up instead of a single hole :dunno:, my dad and I split the cost of the gun so it wasn't a big deal.

I've used the regular liner to undercoat my K5 (2 gals) and the 53 Willys wagon I'm building for dad. I plan to try out the HNR in the Willys in the very near future and will most likely use it and bed liner in the K5 when the time comes.

Got a pic of the tip?

Well that doesn't sound right ........................:haha:

I don't have any, but if you want me to I could take a pic or 2 next time I'm at the shop (mon or Tues) :waytogo:

:)

I'm just wondering if the HF gun will do the job, and if not, if I could get a different tip for the gun. Sounds like kylerj133 got on just fine with the HF gun.

I think the only difference would be the width of the spray pattern :dunno: , having 5 small holes instead of one medium size hole may help produce a wider pattern but honestly I don't know.

HEY keep the pics of tips in the pigpen not on my thread!!! :haha:sorry everyone for the picture delay. Ive been super busy between school and work. I promise to have some up tomorrow afternoon
