My new alt seems to be about 1/4-1/8" out of alignment with the crank pull and squeeking because of it. How do I fix it?

Thanks

The other day I swapped my alt for another (old one was only putting out 12.43v). The new (reman) is off center even more! The pulley sets back about 1/2" now. I was thinking about shimming the pulley but theres not enough shaft for that. Any suggestions?

I can't shim the alt out due to it's lower mounting point. The lower bracket has the spacer built in and the alt fit on either side ( imagine a U shape for the mounting point on the bottom of the alt). The last alt (reman as well) lined up close but was still off a bit, the new one is off even more. Maybe I should exchange it for another, the next one might work:crazy: .

Shim the "U" part off the head some. I've done this a few times. Or, grind the alt itself in the correct direction and use a few washers as spacers for what was ground off.
