I have a 89 k5 350 had alt tested it's good. But I've tried running a switched 12 source to it still notta it dosent show power at the stud. And when the grounds pulled it stalls.

Pulling off either battery cable with it running to "test" an alternator can fry the diode trio...

It would help if we knew what model alternator we're talking about--newer ones are set up differently than the old 10-SI models on 73-87 trucks..you might be applying power to the wrong wire if its a newer one..if it bench tests good,it should be good, and the fault lies in the truck's wiring somewhere..

Plug should have some letters on it that coorospond with the wiring locations. You need to supply 12v switched power to the correct terminal, out power to each of those terminals and see what it does. One of them will keep the alt excited even withbthevignition off and run the battery down another one will excite it and charge as normal. Not sure what the other two do.
