i got my new tires mounted on the k5, saturday. when i drove the truck in, it ran great, and the only sound was the roar of my healthy chevy 350. but, after the new tires were on, my alternator started squealing like crazy. i goes away when i give it gas, though. so i soaked it in silicone lube and that solved the problem...for now. but that is just really weird. there's no reason the tire shop would touch the alternator, and i don't think they did. so, now i just sort of wonder how long i have until my alternator's pulley bearings go out. that'll be fun.

sounds like they needed a little more business and what perfect way than to mess with something they didnt need to.

If ya sprayed the area of the bearing with lube and the squeak stopped just go ahead and get another alternator if it locks up you will lose the belt and no water pump=stuck. fix it before it breaks and be:D

i took a closer look, today. the alt was only squeaking a little. the real problem was that the smog pump seized. it didn't sound like a belt squeal usually does, because it was intermittent.so, i just decided to pull it out and run a shorter belt. works well.

i pulled off all of the air injection stuff except for the tubes into the manifolds. those dang fittings just bend and/or strip when you try to wrench on them. i'll have to find something to plug the large hose fittings with. i just need something that can take exhaust heat.
