Can someone tell me what thread the charging stud on this alternator is? It looks like 1/4-20 but it wont thread on, it is coarse thread of some size.

Could very well be metric. With enough of these being rebuilt it's anyones guess what threads things are these days.
Also looks like that's a 400 or a stroker 383, at least the harmonic balancer is a 400.

If it helps any, the nut on the charging terminal of the 12SI I pulled out of my truck took a 10MM socket.
