Running a bunch of accessories and need up upgrade my alternator.

What y'all running for a high amp direct replacement alternator for a decent price?

It's on my 86 K5 with a 350

Check out late model trucks in a junkyard. My '05 XL has 160A stock.

Can you just put a bigger output alternator in? Or do you need to modify anything? Like wire upgrades etc?

Definately--doubling the amperage output will require larger gauge wire to handle the current...that 10 gauge red wire on the stud at the rear of the altenator isn't quite up to handling 140 amps,it was borderline at 63 amp stock altenators outputs...I'd at least add a 8 gauge or thicker cable from that stud, right to the positive battery terminal, along with retaining the original wire....

I used 6ga when I did my 140amp ALT. So far so good and its been on there for about 5years.
