I am wanting to upgrade my truck to a serpentine setup but i think the only alt. that will fit are a 1 wire mine has 2 what would need to be done to correct this. also i know someone has told me before but why does one have 1 and the other have 2? thanks, chris

factory, my bad /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif i got a donor vehicle lined up all i need to buy is the alt and the water pump and a different fan.

Monte Carlos with V8's (for sure) starting around '85 went with a semi-serpentine setup, alternator being one that is serpentine. Still the same style wiring.

Trucks went with that system for awhile, but I'm not sure of the years either.

I'm assuming though, that the semi-serpentine alternator will work with a full serpentine setup. I'm 99% sure it will, but I've never dealt with the full setup.

IIRC the single wire setups have a self exciter installed in the altenator.
