I have searched all the threads I can find and I still don't have an answer.
On a three wire alternator, does the wire from terminal one on the alt, the one that normally goes to the amp indicator light, need to be wired to something or can it be deleted? Seems to me it can be left off since it only goes to a lamp. I thought I read something about it having to be referenced to ground thru a resistance wire of 10 ohms or something like that?

What I am trying to do here is add an additional alternator/battery to run my windstar fans. I want to add a seperate voltmeter for that system and I'm unsure if I connect the wire from terminal 1 on the alt to a voltmeter or ...wire terminal 1 thru a lamp and connect the other side to the bat stud via switched source?

The "switch" would be a relay to turn on when I turn the ingition on.

The voltmeter may have to be "switched" also so it isn't "reading" voltage all the time?

I'm trying to duplicate the stock wiring method for my OEM alternator but my Haynes manual doesn't show where the wire from terminal 1 goes after the bulkhead connection at the fire wall.

Im no expert but it thats how it has thats what it has to be.

Like on some vw you need the alternator hooked up to a dash light thats turned by the ignition swith, as soon as you turn the switch the light comes on and inmediatly it send the signal to the alt. for it to start.
