If you didn`t have one at all, what would you get/prefer, OEM or aftermarket? the next purchase will include an alt, so just curious on peoples opinions.

i was looking into getting one of those pontiac trans sport mini van alternaters. i heard they put out 140amp i beleive. i just dont know how to install the damn thing with the diffrent wires

Get the OEM Transport alternator. Unless you have a shop like my buddies available, the OEM stuff is the only way to go. I just happen to be cheap, and have a friend who has been building quality electrical components for 30 years. He will always be certain that the parts I get are as good or better than the OEM, and he charges a fraction of the cost.

I agree with whatever is cheapest. Very few, if any companies are making their own alternators, most everyone just takes a stock one and modifies the windings.

The newer (non-SI) alternators are far better in terms of output than the SI's. I'm guessing the Transport alternator is a CS-144 if you want to research on the internets about them. CS-130 is ok too, if you "only" need up to 105 amps.

That Wrangler NW one looks like a CS-144 to me, which I have no idea why you'd pay anywhere near that price for that little increase in output over the stock Transport piece.

Heck, it'd be cheaper to buy and install two CS144's for 280 total potential amps!

Get a CS144 alternator. There are usually good prices available from NAPA/Autozone, etc.
