Ive been looking around for tow rigs and I can't decide. Just the past 2 weeks I've Thought about getting a CUCV chassis from a friend and putting some 3/4 tons under it, buddy of mine was gonna cut me a damn good deal on rebuilding a 4L80e, and I think I know where I could get a 5.3 with harness for a good deal. I've already got a 32 spline 208 I could use for a tcase if I can get that to jive with it. Thinking I could find a decent shape not running 2wd reg cab long bed and use the body/title for it. I've got the tcase, driveshafts, axles, suspension, wheels and tires to make a roller of a chassis. But gotta finding an 87 k10 or c10, since the fuel tanks are ready for EFI, that is ideal for a cheap price. I just can't pay $20k for a 10 year old or more diesel truck that has 100k or 150k on it, morally it just blows my mind how people have driven the prices up so high. I guess my only question is, doesthe 4L80E need a speed sensor in the t-case like the 4L60E?

4l80 has 2 sensors to run unlike 4l60 .

input speed and output speed.

in 2wd form there both in tranny .

in factory 4wd there 1 in front of 4l80 and rear hole pluged and 2nd is tcase sensor .

read up in the garage section . been decent talk on this before.

some guys us a 2wd setup with a 4wd tail shaft swapped in and let it think its just a 2wd tranny .

Yeah found what I needed. Seems like a 2wd tranny would be the best route to go then.

I used a 4wd trans and had the rear reluctor wheel installed for the rear sensor. I use the 241 output sensor on my t-case for my speedometer. This allows the speedo to read accurate when i'm in 4 low. If not, you have to get the computer programmed with the 4 low tables and then add a switch to tell the computer you are in 4 low.

why should I have to use an electronic speedo? Why do I need the speedo to be accurate in 4wd low? And why do I need to add 4wd low tables if I'm going to use a 208 tcase? If you can explain this I would be very greatful I just don't get why I have to add 4wd tables when I'm using a mechanical speedo/tcase. It's going to only be put in 4wd if I need more traction pulling a trailer on a forest road or something.

You don't have to use an electronic speedo, you can use the mechanical one off of your 208. You wont have to run the 4 Low tables if your running both sensors in the transmission like mentioned above. I was more or less trying to say that if you use the T-case as one of your sensors to run the 4L80E then you would need to add that 4 low table. I hope that makes more sense. Sorry my last post was lacking some information. Hope that cleared things up a little.

Ok yeah that cleared stuff up lol. I was like you gotta be kidding me I'm just screwed either way lol
