Am I going to break this knuckle?

Getting things in line to do my crossover steering swap. The ball joints in the knuckle that I’m using were beyond mangled and sloppy. I tried the ball joint press to no avail. Decided to take a BFE to the lower and it came right out. On to the upper.....I went and bought a press(been threatening for 10 years) and still can’t get it out. I don’t have enough accessories to get the knuckle set up nice in the press.

I am afraid to go full on with the press in this orientation. I left it with pressure on it and took the wife out. How far would you push it like this? Any ideas? I don’t have a heat source and already beat the shit out of the knuckle while under pressure.

I would stick something in there to keep the pressure off the top, piece of pipe, round stock, sq stock, anything to transfer the load.

Looks like you’re pushing it in. Top one should push from the center of the knuckle up
 
Whoa! I thought I looked at it and decided it came out the way I was pushing. I’ll take the idiot award and swap it around. I’m headed home now and will give it a shot. First ball joints on a GM or 10 bout.

Its all good as long as you didn’t bend it
 
Yeah, I feel dumb. Came right out when I flipped it around, and probably didn’t need the press. I’ll have to do some measuring it the morning to make sure I didn’t bend it, but fingers are crossed.
