So yeah. Who knew that lube makes things work easier?

Went on a lithium spray grease binge the other day. The hood that never latched easy, and never popped correctly? Yeah. So easy it's scary. Works every time to open like it should, and closes almost too easily.

Sprayed every single point (the spring portions, not the rear in the cowl) from the hood to the fender pivot, then worked the hood as the grease turned more solid. One side, then the next.

Does anyone make it a regular habit to lube their hood hinges? As many times as I pop that thing open, it should have been my first task to complete. It is about as near amazing as something that simple can be.

I do. Whenever I have a spray grease or Ed 40 I always attack the hinges. Once you have a hood that doesn’t want to close it makes it a priority. Don’t want to taco the hood.

I oil the hood hinges often to avoid folding it in half..
I use gear oil or bar & chain lube ,it stays put longer..
Too bad I didn't oil the rest of the underhood and chassis when I got the truck 16 years ago,it'd have inner fenders still,a good bed, cab, and I wouldn't now have to weld it all back together..

I sprayed 2 cans of white lube on my Suburban and van's oil pan and the transmission pan and any other things I didn't want rusting when I knew they would be sitting a long time..
Wish now I'd used regular chassis grease with a paint brush or gloved hands, that white lube sucks,it didn't stay on long ,now everything I put it on looks like barnacles are growing it it..:(

I used spray white lube in between the leafs on leaf springs after jacking the truck up--it made for a much smoother and less squeaky ride, but only for a few days..chassis grease lasted a lot longer..

My drivers door has a bad case of creaky hinge syndrome, that spring loaded roller dewhicky that gives the hinge detents ,nothing I've put on that thing gets rid of the creaking when you open & close the door, tried every oil ,grease & lube known to mankind--STP did silence it for a few days....the passenger side had that spring snap off--that door is nice & silent, but it wont stay open unless you hold it now..

Is that stuff thick when it solidifies? If something was thicker and more likely to last longer, I'd use it instead. Never knew there was anything more than lithium grease that came in spray cans.

I wouldn't say it is thick. The initial viscosity is similar to WD40 when the liquid leaves the can. A few seconds later the liquid is much more like a film instead of liquid. Some kind of reaction occurs upon contact with air, which makes it very clingy to whatever it is sprayed on.

I wish I could give you more info, but a mechanic at work tossed me a can and "you gotta try this stuff". I don't even know where to buy it, mostly because I never looked...

It just works, and in my opinion, works much better than white lithium.

Back when I was a kid,my dad brought home some "dripless oil" from his work,it came in a can like charcoal lighter fluid, but had a nozzle like a smaller 3 in 1 oil can..

The stuff came out looking like typical motor oil,but after a few seconds it solidified into a wax like paste that wouldn't run or drip off, even if it got heated up quite a bit..like candle wax that did not harden up completely..

I have not seen anything like it around since though..until today!
I guess you can buy anything on E-bay...N-E Thing! ..
Vintage 1944 American Dripless Oil Can | eBay

That was the exact can I was referring to...but I see there are still some other "dripless oils" still being sold..

When I got my 91 I lubed the whole truck. Hit the door hinges real well and put a new driver door locking spring thing in. I also put a nos hood latch on it. I even put a bushing in the tailgate pivot. The details make the truck very enjoyable to drive. I get compliments on how well my doors and hood work lol

I'm surprised the lithium doesnt work as good as the other stuff. My only guess is that it doesnt "stick around" as well? Or doesnt hold up to heat? I didnt look at all the specs.
