AMD Auto Metal Direct has new grilles

Thanks for the link. I see they have the later plastic ones as well, $90 isn't bad at all if they are decent quality!

Anyone know if the 77-79 takes the bowtie and looks good? Pictures from other vendors dont show it but the description says it does.

I bought the AMD 73-74 argent grille last year.
Nice product.
I called them and talked to them at that time. He didn't know that there was a chrome version that was stock. I emailed him some photos and a scan from my original dealer manual. He said that they would be looking into it. Looks like they are close. They should be here before long. The Cheyenne package had an optional chrome look to the forward facing parts of the grill. Now If I could just talk them into making the little aluminum curved part of the door sill for the 1973-74

Since you apparently have some pull, why don't you just go ahead and call him again and tell him to get started on those 73 to 74 GMC grilles as well as the others from the '70s for the GMC's.

Seriously they would make a killing on all the 73-80 chevy and gmc that is missing from the market.

You guys can call just as easily as I can. I would just suggest that you have your ducks in order, have part numbers, photos and eveything you can do to show strong interest. I don't have any pull...I just called because I was ready to order a grill and noticed they didn't have the chromed versioned and asked about it. He said he didn't know they existed...so I sent documentation and now I see that they about to be available. I am sure these guys don't know everything there is to know about every part for every car they make panels for.

I have also contacted Steele Rubber and talked with them. I had an OEM in the package 40 year old Windsheild frame-to-fiberglass top" seal. I offered to send it to them for them to make an accurate fitting seal because they don't exist out there. All the ones available are too long and have to be spliced to fit properly. They told me they "weren't interested in making a part that wouldn't sell many units".

I contacted LMC and offered to send my OEM in the box door sill curved peices to them so that they could scan them and make them for resale. They told me they would need SIX of them pristine in the original boxes...then they consider it. Well, six of them pristine don't exist. So that was their way of telling me the same thing..."not interested in make a part that they aren't gonna sell that many units of".

I don't have any connections, I just talk to them. Now, if anybody could get a group together to show interest in any given product, like the GMC grilles, you would have a netter shot of getting it done. How many units would it take to make it worth their investment? I don't know. But I figure the "chroming" of the chevy grille is a minor variation to an already manufactured AMD part...so not like inventing the wheel.

Those are the original emails...my email address redacted.

So, I am telling you, that your calls and emails and sometimes just asking can get stuff done. Get as many people on the forum as you can to email them and call asking for the grille

I was just messing with you, but you make a very valid point. Just looking on eBay, Facebook, and CL I know that if AMD or anyone started making those 73 to 80 GMC grilles and other trim parts they would make an absolute killing. The only reason I'm not going to do my build to make it look like a GMC is because it's so stinking hard to find the emblems and other correct parts. I'm wanting to make my 88 look like a 73 or 74.

Not related to AMD, but I just received a grill from LMC and wanted to show you this trash.

In the catalog LMC describes it as a GM restoration part. It looks nothing like the original Grill, my OE grill has chrome parts on it while the LMC is just dull gray plastic.

and then take a look at the emblem, which they sell for $70 bucks separately. It's not even a real emblem, it's a sticker and it was applied on the grill wrong!!

Trash from LMC!

How do you apply a sticker incorrectly when it’s suppose to fit perfectly inside the raised borders? :dunno:
Even Stevie Wonder could have done a better job.
