Hey all I got my new radiator and Am trying to figure out what the thread size on it is . Its a diesel with the trans and engine cooler. I got to go from a an to npt. The trans is a -6 and the engine is -8 line. So what do
I need?

Do you know that the -6 means 6/16" or 3/8"? -8 is 8/16" or 1/2".

The fittings on the trans cooler are typically NPTF (the F indicates interference sealing on the threads where NPT is not self sealing), on the oil cooler they are SAE O-Ring fittings.

How do I find the ID? Your right the trans side has a compression fitting. I did see the o-ring but im not sure of the diameter.

You will want a catalog basically. They will tell you the thread size vs/ port size. Then you would just measure the diameter of the thread and compare it to the chart.

not to be a tard but im kinda confused, ok very confused. So -6 hose is just -6 hose? the id of that doesnt change?

That is correct... as long as you don't try to compare tubing to hose. Tubing is OD size while hose is ID size.

Now, fittings a -6 can be 3/8 NPT, 3/8 sae o-ring, or any other 3/8 fitting type.

-6 hose can use a -6 hose to -6 fitting on the end, or it could go -6 hose to -8 fitting, or -6 hose to -4 fitting, etc. Fittings are where you change sizes the easiest.

Do you have your old fittings handy? Might be easiest to take the old lines into the parts store and get some help matching up the pieces.

I do have the old stuff. The fittings I have for the trans line are going to work though I may be going with some 90* stuff due to routing issues. The stuff for the Engine oil are mangled and not of any use.
I did get some numbers from the -8 hose connector that read AFC 1246-08, but I googled it and didnt come up with anything.

well everything seems to be coming together, except for a few things. The bungs for the enigine oil cooler dont seem to like the 1/2 thread. Could it be a metric thread? -8 to 18mm x1.5 male? Also the radiator came with 2 brass inserts that look like I would be able to us a inverted flare fittings instead of a tube fitting. Confused yet? so am I and it seems every shop I go to is pretty mixed up about it.

At this point Im looking at getting a aftermarket Oil cooler ,I think its just going to be easier since for some reason nobody makes something for the thread size I have. I can run -8 to 1/2 npt and I can get those anywhere. I would like to just use the stock setup but I cant seem to fing What I need
