And discuss….

Yes, and the Speedmaster parts are probably made in the same Chinese factory Summit brands parts are manufactured in.
Summit had to know what was going on but has to react since the got caught using the original manufactures name on the knock-offs and it went viral.

Makes buying speed parts through @folkenheath even a better deal.

Summit did the right thing, even though they're not innocent lambs by any means. My understanding was the original fakery was well beyond what Summit knew of. I think they knew that trans brake was a copy, but I think what was news to them was "Broader Performance" being machined into the copy. The box doesn't show that, and the pics provided don't show that either. It's only once you open the box and remove the part for all the packing that you get to see "Broader Performance" machined into it.

From an optics standpoint, as well as a legal standpoint Summit (and Jegs btw) had to take aggressive action. That allegedly meant removing Speedmaster79 from their catalog and warehouses in a scorched Earth style policy. Apparently all Speedmaster79 stock has been destroyed rather tan being returned.

I think the real question is, is their any appetite left for "Summit brand" parts?

Also, as I understand it, "Speedmester79" is the new name for what was "Pro-Comp" in the past. It's quite telling when a company has to change their name like that.

They literally destroyed all the inventory?
Dang, I could of used some cheap aluminum SBC heads. From the reviews I saw/read, they were decent.

That's just what I heard, but who really knows? The explanation given was they didn't want to give Speedmaster79 the option of just selling the same shit parts elsewhere. Now, maybe that was just the trans valve bodies, or maybe it was everything Speedmaster 79 sells...unless you work at Summit we can't know for sure.

Speedmaster is just copied parts and make them in china with less quality and sell them cheap. They'll probably change their name again and keep doing it.

This is also why I don't buy Summit or Jegs branded parts either, they are the same thing. Summit and Jegs are great sales places, but they aren't manufacturers or engineers. I feel like having their name on your parts is similar to putting Walmart on your parts, they likely just find the cheapest bidder and slap their name on it. And Jeg's was recently sold so it's not even a family business anymore, the Coughlins that used to own it are true drag racers and would put money back in the sport.

There's a lot of name swapping in manufacturing. In the "sticker" world there are just a few manufacturers that make vinyl and they just get rebranded by several companies. There are almost always tipoffs like similar wording in product specs or even product images. It's usually not hard to figure out who really makes a particular house brand vinyl.

I was recently shopping for serpentine belts and noticed the ACDelco belt and Gates belt had the exact same product image and the part number was the same with 2 altered digits. Makes me wonder who the actual manufacturer is.

ACDelco doesn't make anything, it's just a brand. AC Rochester and Delco Remy did. They merged to AC Delco, which soon was absorbed into Delphi, who still makes lots of parts. Your ACDelco part may be made by Delphi, NGK, Denso, etc. Some may come from the same Chinese suppliers as the budget parts store ones.

I think this should go here, the story from the source of what happened, and I think he has some very valid points as well on supporting American small business.

He found out because he had customers calling him complaining his product was malfunctioning, and it was the cheap copies! "speedbastard79" as he calls it...

China..."most favored" trade status.
Lol (eyeroll)

I feel bad for Broader Performance.
Quite the opposite feeling I have for brands like Disney or Hello Kitty etc. They cry about unfair trademark/intellectual property infringements and want others to make them to stop. Problem is, they’re all made in the same place. What do you expect? Wanna find who’s making them, it’s not hard…trust me. On the same note, you can buy both licensed and unlicensed merchandise on Alibaba. They turn a blind eye cause…what’s the saying…”cut your nose off to spite your face”

Even crazier is the copied parts, the cheap transbrakes were locking up in 3rd gear, that is not just copied, but super dangerous, and they put his name on it...:eek1:

I was reading some of the YT comments addressed to Summit. One I saw mentioned that Nitro Gear was Speedmaster79, also I saw mention that Pro Comp is Speedmaster79. Are either of those true, anyone know how many names Speedmaster79 uses. Personally I never heard of them till thread.

Saw the BBB has an F rating for Speedmaster79.

One domain trust checker rated the website at 50.7, caution, beware rating level.

Nitro gear sets have a bad rap according to my axle guy. I did buy a Powr Lok carrier from them a decade ago. Not sure who the manufacturer was, no issues

A lot has changed from 30 years ago. It was getting bad with everything going overseas.
A lot has changed from 10 years ago. Corporations having lawsuits for logo infringement protection.
A lot has changed from 5 years ago. China becomes a honey badger. They don't give a shit.

Pro-comp was a brand owned by the parent company of 4wheel parts (TransAmerica who also owned the warehouses and handled all the logistics too). They also owned Smittybilt too. Over a year ago Trans sold off the distribution side as well as pro comp and smitty. Meyer Distributing bought the warehouse/logistics side and Wheel Pros bought pro comp and smitty.

We’ve had a hell of a time getting parts from either as Wheel Pros is moving manufacturing back to the states supposedly.

I can say either brand is not owned or marketed by some Chinese corp. Wheel Pros have been swallowing up many smaller companies including Ready Lift and obviously destroying the legacy of Hoonigan by buying the brand.

I have zero doubt prior to the buyout both brands had a lions share of production in china.
