Do they make an adapter that will allow you to use 7/8th arbor grinding wheels on a 5/8th arbor? I know I can put them on and tighten the crap out of them. Looking for a better way to get and keep them centered

That sir I don't know. I just checked all my wheels and everything is 5/8. I did have one adaptor, but it was 5/8 to metric threads.

Just asking cause it seems the better deals are out there for the 7/8" arbor grinding wheels and flap wheels

That's prob more of an industrial size.

The ones out there at big R are decently priced, but I seem to buy from all over to see quality.

7/8 is the arbor size for a standard buffer/grinder... it's what I use the majority of the time...

i've never seen an adapter to the smaller stuff... be VERY careful with "just tightening the snot out of it" or using a "bushing" to make up the difference... the slight vibration is very bad for the tool.. not to mention with cutoff wheels, they become very easy to explode..

I have a big Dewalt buffer like that but have never used it for grinding. The buffing pads just screw onto the shaft

they sell arbors for them for cutoff wheels, etc.. or for stone grinding wheels, you just buy the pre-threaded discs.... i also use regular grinding discs with a backing pad and nut that holds the discs down...

good buffing pads like 3M's 2 + 2's require a superbuff adapter to keep the pad out and off the body...

Find some 5/8 ID tubing with .125 (7/8 OD) wall and make a bushing, cut it the length of the wheel thinkness. The bushing will center the 7/8 ID wheel on the 5/8 arbor. Tubing can be really anything. Steel, aluminum, even PVC. Just keep it with your grinder.

So I went out to the garage looking for some pipe and I found an angle grinder that I got from my dad's shop after he passed away. It has the bigger shaft..SCORE..

Thanks dad

WOW, COOL! Well there ya go. :waytogo:

Not sure if it's the same, or even what you are looking for, but my flap discs have a much larger hole size then my grinder. Home Depot had an adapter to go from my smaller threaded shaft, to the larger size threaded hole in the flap disc. Granted, this is a threaded adapter, not just a ring.

I posted this on Pirate too and someone mentioned that Home Depot sold the the different size backing flange for Dewalts, like you say. Thread should be the same. I'll check it out this weekend.
I'm not even sure the other grinder works yet and it has different thread size than my Makita. It would be nice to have a backup in case the cheaper grinder craps out
