another 12bolt bites the dust

An Army Hummer? Do you know what one of those things weighs?

The military versions have armor plating, anti-mine floors, etc. No wonder you snapped an axle.... You were trying to move the earth!

It's a great day to be alive...

Sorry about you axle, thats a bummer. A 14bolt out of a 73 to 87 two or four wheel drive will work. If you get on out of a two wheel you will have to modify the shock mounts or get longer shocks. Other than that its a snap except for eight lug wheels ;).

I agree, it's unlikely that the actual c-clip will ever break as it only sees side-loading in one direction which is away from the vehicle (if the tire is being pulled away from the vehicle) which are usually pretty light loads. In fact, the c-clip design should be capable of withstanding more sideloading than the pressed on bearing, or flanged, design of other axles like the 9" or SF Dana 60 or Dana 44.........granted, full-floating is still the best in my opinion. The full-floating design is the only one in which you can safely drive with a broken axle shaft.

No I think your right I don't know what I was thinking. I would most likely get a FF if I go that way.
