i just picked up an '83 c20 that i plan on gutting and using on by '82 K5 :weld:it's got the D44 front and 14 SF rear. my question is can the 14 be converted to FF?
and also, what's the better rim size to run? I plan on going with 37 x 12.5

No simple way to "convert" the axle, 'cuz you'd need to change hubs, axle shafts, and innards. Best bet is gonna be to swap the whole axle with matching ratio.

Rims, you're prolly better off with 16" as opposed to 15". Width would be decided by tire size. BFG suggests 8.5-11" wide rims for 12.5" tread width. That said, I've run 33x12.50's and 35x12.50's on 8" rims without issue. Presumably they bulb a bit more, but it also puts the rims more out of harm's way.

Check tire availability for 17" or 18" rims, compared to 15"/16"...

A C20 NEVER had a front axle as it is a 2wd. :deal:

I doubt you could convert the 14SF to a FF and even if you could it would cost WAY more than finding a 14FF with the gearing you want.

For a 12.5" wide tire IMO an 8" wide rim is best. The narrower the rim is the better the tire will stay seated on the rim when aired down.

FYI....C20 would be a 2WD....K20=4WD, anyhow....the front "should" probably be a GM 10bolt. A Dana 44 would have the Dana typical cover, and have 44F cast into it on the webbing somewhere. The 10bolt would have a couple ears on the bottom side of it.
A 14SF axle cannot swap parts with the 14FF axle, nothing in common between them except wheel bolt pattern. I would run a 8.5 inch rim with those tires, but you could go up to a 10".

aaah, guess i had the c and k part mixed up. I always thought the trucks were c's and just the blazer was a k.
it looks like i will be able to run the stock rims off the k20 for a while then till i can invest in some good aftermarket rims.
i didn't get a chance to crawl under the truck as it was sitting in a snow bank, but when i move it tomorrow i will check for the stamp and ears on the front.
this thing is a cheyenne trailering special with a 350, what gears typically came in those?

K5=Blazer. Regardless of 2WD or 4WD
