So, Im going from a TH350 to a 700R4 in my 2wd 86 short bed. Im assuming the yokes are different and will need to be changed. Is the length of the transmissions different enough that I will need to have my driveline shortened?
yep longer tranny. slip yoke the same if i recall. drive shaft will need to be shorter. and hope you dont have the factory baloon drive shaft like most did. thay are non shorten or lengthen shafts. best find correct doner shaft for 700r4 in your truck or build new with reg tube for the shaft.
I thought the long (9") tailshaft Th350's were the same length as the 700r4's. Actually I know they are...when swapping a Th350 into a vehicle with a 700r4, the 9" takes the same shaft. Wouldn't his truck have the longer version?
I beleive your right,a 2wd or car TH350 with the 9" tail should fit right in place of a 700R4 or vise versa..most of the 70's and 80's 2wd pickup trucks and vans used TH350's with 9" tailshafts...used to be common for tranny shops to "delete" a 700R4 in favor of a TH350 some years ago,as many hated the "weak" 700R4's and wanted a ruggeder tranny for towing or plowing..
