because this topic NEVER gets old and my search button is not spittng out what im asking it to (or ive had 1 too many rip-its before lunch and my brain is shutting down :screwy:)

Currently running 5.7 TBI, 4l60, 241c, and D60/14B with 4.56 rolling 36s.

Found a deal on some 39s, which i might also have to opportunity to pick up detroits and 5.38s for both axles.

SO..........im looking around for info. Whos running 5.38s and is it worth it to swap up if the truck will be on 39s?

Does it require the 4.10 and down carrier to run the 5.38 gear set?

thanks

Looked at the grimm jeepers numbers, gears + tires definately make good numbers for the combo. Just want the personal experince that only getting flamed on the internets can provide - :D

any word on the carrier usage for the gearsets? So far it looks to be that ill need a 4.10 carrier as it appears all of the 5.38 gears im finding are thick. Are there even any made for a 4.56 carrier?

I've run 5.13's and 39's w/o overdrive and was real happy with it. Never felt like too much gear for the tire size.

As for the carriers, on the 14 bolt you'll need a 4.10 carrier as the 5.38's are only made in the thick style. For the D60 it'll depend on the supplier, I'm pretty sure Dana offered 5.38's so they would fit a 4.56+ carrier whereas aftermarket stuff would be determined by the manufacturer.

I have 5.38's and had 39.5's, it was good, now Im running 38 radials on the street and its perfect, I also run 42's and its a little sluggish, but still pulls od on the freeway at 60-65...As for the axles, the 14 bolt needs the 4.10 and down carrier as the 5.38 gears are only thick. The D60 needs an 4.56 and up carrier as those gears are only made normal, (no thick gears for d60). Hope that helps.
