Hello all,
I am getting ready to pull my old 350 this weekend out of my 86 K-5 to swap in a 5.3l. I've been doing lots of reading and research and I'm sure by now this swap has been done plenty.

My only concern as of now is with the stock cross-member. I've read on some places that it must be cut and others that will clear just fine.

I was hoping maybe someone who has done this swap could explain what worked for motor mounts. I was going to just order the adapter plates, but after reading that the cross-member may need to be cut I thought would ask what others have done.

Also I will be reusing my current 700r4 since its still practically brand new and all beefed up. It should handle the 5.3l just fine.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I just put my 5.3 in and I have a crossmember from ORD but, it sits too close. As far as the stock one's concerned,I've seen people had to cut them up to make it work.
I also had to put in a 3/8 spacer plate under the mounts to make everything clear.
You'll see more info in my build.

I'm about 90% done with mine im using a 5.3 and the turbo 350. Bought the mounts from a company called dirty dingo they can adjust engine placement front to rear so you dont have to move the trans crossmember.
My engine crossmember was contacting a tab that hangs off the drivers side of the motor and is not used for anything so i trimed the tab off and clears fine. Im using the stock truck manifolds and they clear my frame rail so no triming there.I used the stock flexplate that is dished and the spacer from gm that was used on the 6.0 and 4l80 combo only mod i had to do was elongate the flywheel holes. I did the harness rework my self with a kit from current performance. It took a lot of research but it has gone smoothly.
