Another "Allan Trade Proposal"

I've been after a friend's '83 K30 regular cab 6.2 Diesel truck since he got it.

I soon will have an '84 K5 Blazer, all stock.

He wants the Blazer, but knows the value of a Dana 60 and a 1 ton truck, and a 305 and 10-bolt axles wouldn't be good enough for him.

He and I have proposed the following. Once I have paid off the Blazer, I'll put 3/4 ton axles under it and a 4" lift. To make up for the value of a Dana 60, when I get another running big block motor, I'll give him that and get the 305 back. He doesnt want the 700R4/208, and would rather have a 350/205 or 400/205. He said if I found one of those combo's he'd give me back the 700R4 and 208 plus some cash.

Essentially, I'd be getting This:

1983 K30 Scottsdale, 1-ton SRW Regular Cab, 85,000 original miles, SM465, NP205, 6.2 Diesel, Dana 60, 14-bolt, 4.56 gears, all stock. No rust.

In trade for This:

1984 K5 Blazer Silverado, PW, PDL, 14-bolt FF rear, 10-bolt front, 4.10s, 4" lift, 700R4/208 for now, and a running Big Block motor.

I do the lift and axles... he'll do the motor swap.

I think you'd make out good on that deal, none of the parts or the Blazer are anything too special...cept for the big block, but hey your getting a dana 60 in return

Trade I personally like the fact that it has Dana 60/14FF/6.2/205. Those 4 right there go a long way in my book.

Dana 60 fronts to me are like Cigarrettes to a smoker; Beer to an alcoholic; Drugs to a drug addict.

And since I don't smoke, drink or do drugs... collecting Dana 60's are my compensation for any bad habits.

Plus I want the Diesel for better mileage, and to be able to tow with it at the same time, and to put my snowplow on (not that Spokane actually gets winter anymore).

Have you seen the 83 K20 with a 6.2 and SM465 in the "Complete Vehicles For Sale" section in your area for 1800 bucks?.. --I'd be all over that truck if I had the money and lived nearby!..I know it doesn't have a dana 60,but they aren't everything!..

Yep, I know of it. The SM465 and NP205 T-case that are in it came from me.

It's a nice truck, but I'm always after Dana 60s. A couple more and I'll be done collecting. So I say.

We talked and made some modifications.

Instead of giving a 454 later, I'll give him a TH400 and 205 and keep the rebuilt 700R4 and 208 myself. And I'll give him my set of 38" 16.5" SX Swampers that are like 35% but in good shape, and put a 6" lift on the Blazer.

Same as before except instead of a complete running big block, a set of 38's, 6" lift rather than 4" and I give a 400/205 and get the 700R4/208 back.

Looks like we're trading once I pay for and actually own the K5 soon. We plan on having it tore down from having a 10-bolts with 3.07s, a 305/700R4/208 all stock, and back together with 3/4 ton axles with 4.10s, a 454/TH400/205 and a 6" lift and 38" Swampers for the next Mud Race in two weeks so he can enter it.

And then I'll own a 6.2 Diesel K30 tow rig that gets better mileage than my crew cab at 8mpg.
