Another alternator question

Ok so Im running dual batteries (cuz its a diesel) and have a question about wiring my new alternator. My wiring harness is mostly gone so Im not sure how to wire it. I have a big 2 gauge wire for the + post on the alt going straight to the batteries. Then what do I do with the plug type on the alternator? On the picture on the left, where does 1 go? Do I not use it since I only have one wire? What about 2? Does that go to the battery.

I know this is dumb question but im not trying to fry my batteries and new alt.

Not that I am an expert on Alternators (look at a few of my threads, and you can see I am still learning!), but my alternator is set up the stock way, wired to the main battery. Then the aux battery is just connected to the Main one through an isolator I got from 12voltguy. So the "battery" stuff above is just the main battery. When I switch them to work together, it basically just makes a "bigger" battery.

What type of alt, aftermarket 1 or stock 3 wire?

it can run either way, i want to run it 3 wire, and since my harness cut up, im not sure how to wire the plug (1 and 2)

#2 goes to battery or can be attached to the output post, this is the sensing line for the voltage regulator. The battery will give a more accurate signal than the output lug. The best place is to hook it up to the main junction in the wiring, usually somewhere in the engine harness.

#1 goes to an ignition on/off and can be wired into the dummy light.

External regulated are slightly different (right pic) but you should have an internaly regulated alt (left picture).

yeah i know mine is internally regulated. thanks alot you cleared it up for me, ive been reading stuff over and over but still didnt get it. thanks
