Sorry folks, but another question about my first K5....err...V1500. Is it ordinary to get that gear tooth whining noise in 1rst(2nd) and the beginning of 2nd(3rd) on my SM465? It sounds like the straight-cut racing gears I have in my Mini. Are these hellical cut gears with low lubricant or is this typical of a standard tranny GM truck. Also, could anyone tell me some stories about this 6.55 "bull low" (1rst) gear. Thats low. I have friends with Jeeps that are trying to build rigs that are jealous of this first gear ratio. I'm just wondering why GM would mass produce something this unusable in everyday use. But hey, maybe the SM465 wasn't a huge seller. I'm just curious. Also, I was looking through the specs on this site and couldn't find a torque/nM rating for my 89's 350TBI. Shoot me some numbers folks.....Later.s7n

6.55 low gear let GM use higher diff gears and still have decent crawl ratio.Only need to use it with heavy load, use 2nd to take off rest of time.I think 1st is straight cut teeth and 2dn has helical.Wish I could trade 5spd for 465.Dont need OD with 38s and 4.11s. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gifer /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif you don't know how many people would love to give ya their 465 for the 5 speed.

OK...trade 465 for 5speed, or keep 465? got mixed messages...I can cruise an easy 120km/h up here in Canada with the 465, albeit fight the wind resistance. But on the trail the 465 must be great...it is in the snow, haven't experienced the mud yet....

its not an NV4500 (not saying anything bad about your rig zonk, I just remember you mentioning it was the Getrag)

ohhhh ok. i thought it was an nv4500. knew something didn't sound right. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
