Squarebody noob here; I did search but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.

1984 K30 crew cab that came off the line as a cab and chassis with 14 Bolt rear. Currently it has a fleetside bed. I want to keep the current suspension and body height and want to run SRW, the front (dana 60) seems pretty straight forward via switching hubs. That being said I’ve seen some mention of the chassis cab DRW 14 bolt being more narrow that a standard dually. Any experts out here dealt with the this before? I’d prefer to not swap the whole axle.

I may put a wood flatbed on the back but this doesn’t directly effect the conversion but I figured it was worth noting. Thanks in advance. For my lack of skills I have patience and research, I have tools and if I don’t have what I need I’ll borrow or buy what I need. My overall plan is to use this as a plow truck once I square a few things away.

welcom to the site . you will find tons of info and super nice people here . :waytogo:

narrow c&c 14ff to srw width is easy . 2" bolt on aftermarket spacer each side . or if you want closer to front width 3" per side . but the wider the rear the bigger a turning radius you will have .

you can swap srw hubs AND drums over and get a pair of new backing plate mounting rings and weld them on the axle to get the backing plate moved out to the srw spacing . https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/R2015.html

if you go disc brake swap on the rear they make drw disc brake brackets so you can bolt on and go with stockish parts .

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on where to pick up some steel wheels? Searches tend to come up with many many options.

Navarre, east of Pensacola by about 40 minutes.

Oh yeah, cool. There are several members along the coast, be sure to watch the regional forum for get togethers if you're interested. We may be meeting at an off road park close to Birmingham in the spring.
