My 81 Jimmy came with 2.73's. I think that ratio was more common with the SM465 equipped 1/2 tons and K5's. Horrible ratio unless you have 24" tall tires. Mine had 33's on it with those gears and you needed the creeper first gear to get the truck moving...any attempt at using second gear to get going got you horrid clutch chatter or it'd stall.

OTOH it cruised on the highway at 1800 rpm.

1 Quart of Oil every oil change? No thanks. :)

So who changes their oil? I just add a quart or two every so often and change the filter every 6 months. :doah:

I really need to finish putting my 400 together...

I had an '84 K5 with a 305/700R4/208 on 4" and 35's, all while running 2.73 gears. It ran but not like a powerhorse.

I like the way the exhaust goes straight over the axle with no bends.:doah:

reminds me of my dads exhaust that got smashed the first time he hauled a load of wood.

the blocks are pretty too. that truck sure was built right.

Thats not all that bad. My 87 used to eat a quart every 100 miles!!

I think Ive got you beat.:D I bought my 84 when I was 15 and used it to drive to school. unsure of the mileage but it was a twisty road and took about 20 minutes to drive it. Im gonna guess its around 10 miles each way. on days that I would drive to school then home and no where else I would have to dump a quart in every day.:eek1: days when I went other places it would use more.

So that would be like 80 miles to the gallon.........Oil that is:D

Jiffy Lube had free top offs if you had your oil changed there. They knew me by name pretty quick! Soon it was "Hey James, how many quarts today?":haha:

Oh and believe me, it wasnt because I couldnt change it myself. :D

my 83 1/2 ton had 2.73 gears with a 700r4 and a 350 someone swapped in (wasn't the PO as he told me it was a 305). with the stock 235s it was quick for a highschool kid, (faster than everyones elses 4 poppers) and would do burnouts like nothing else.

It actually says
"It does not even use 1 quart of engine oil in the 3000 mile oil change."

Key word being does NOT.:wink1:
