Another hardtop garage hoist

I was going to put this in the 69-72 section, but it's a garage hoist so it might be useful in here no matter what kind of k5 you have.

Here's the standard shot of all the pulley's.

And the shot of the top hoisted up high enough to not hit my head on it. I added some castors onto the support 2x4's so I can lower the top all the way to the floor and roll it around a bit when needed. That feature will help my next roll cage development effort.

Looks good. But my K5 doesn't fit in the garage anymore. I just back up to the shed and slide it onto that.
 
And some detail shots of how it's bolted up there. I used 4 lag bolts into the rafters and used some angle iron to mount the pulley's on the two that didn't have a side wall to mount them on. I didn't want to count on a single eye bolt in a rafter to hold the weight.

The weight of this top appears to be really uneven. At ~250 lbs, 75% of the weight is concentrated over the cab area. Most of the weight is held by the front two pulley's. The rear two just keep it from falling down.

This really helps clear up space for future projects...:D

I can't even get that. I've got an old set of 31's, took the valve cores out so the truck sits on the rims. Even then I have to disconect the door from the opener and push it up to get it in. Once it's in the garage I have a little more room with the 8' celling. At it's tallest point, the door is just under 83" tall. The PO put in a decrotive arch, so the ends taper down to about 80".
 
I hear you. The old wooden door we had was a lot shorter. I had to drive the truck under it and push the door up with my hand as I drove under it. I actually got my fingers caught between the windshield frame and the door when I confused the clutch for the brake one time.:doah: That made it easier to find some money for a taller door.

Is there any stroke left on the opener, so that you can get it to open a little further? I suppose if you have to swap rims, the door isn't a big deal anyway. Just a thought.

No, it's at the end of it's travel. I takes about an hour to get it in the garage. Ever try to drive on four complely flat tires?The steering wheel is basicly useless. Even in creaper/4lo you don't have much control over which direction the truck is going. On the plus side the truck doesnt roll down the driveway.
