I just installed a so-called "good used" fan clutch on my 6.2, and like the old one, it stays locked up.

What causes them to fail? I've bought a couple of new ones over the years, and they seem to fail pretty quickly.

My 305 one just freewheels. So I bought one off eBay 3 years ago, and it wasn't even the correct bolt circle, even tho advtsd as 6.2. So I installed one from another 6.2 I'm parting, and it's locked up, never freewheels, even tho It's around 32f here.

Is one aftermarket brand more or less reliable then the other? I'd buy AC Delco, but it's almost twice as $$$ as aftermkt, but maybe you get what you pay for?

i have to let mine warm a bit to get it to freewheel (close to 5 min in sub freezing temp at 1500 rpm) it sound like a jet is taking off when it's locked(7 blade hd cooling,ac pulley, chevy 400)

Mine went out this winter too. I just took it off and ran it with no fan for a while thinking I would buy some cheap junkyard electric fans before spring. It was fine for driving around town, but I went on a wheeling trip and found out it wouldnt stay cool enough to run on the trails. Had to buy a clutch at a Autozone, the damn this was like $70 or something. I could of had a nice electric fan setup for that much.
