Another muffler poll

I have custom bent full duals,
the headers and mufflers are both dynomax, don't ask what the cats are and I have no idea what specific mufflers it is other than the receipt from summit says I paid 72.00 for each mufflers and 89.95 for each header The cats i haven't a clue, however the truck does sound DAMN NICE if I say so myself!!!! very low rumble at idle, but when you get after her, she crackles!!
hope this little bit helps?

I am upgrading my system later this year hopefully and am interested in getting some Flowmasters, but I hate to spend money on something that is gonna be too loud/quiet. I was thinking about the 60's or 70's do you know what the differences are? I will keep true duals and won't mess with catslso does H-Pipe really improve power? I heard somewhere up to 10HP, is this right?! I also am looking for header suggestions, I have a GM 350 Crate motor.

Good lord. The rod up that man's butt must have a rod up it's butt.

headers, true duals, 2 1/4 pipe, and 40 series flowmasters with dumps! Sounds great! Any other way should be against the law!!!!

Full length headers, 2 1/2 pipes, Flowmaster Y behind the t-case, into a single Flowmaster big block muffler (not sure what the series # is, but the case is like 22" long), with single 3" outlet just behind the passenger side tire. Nice and quite, but still sounds good. Loud exhaust gets real old after a long day on the trail.

I did 2.5" pipes, and the more I learned about the benefits of a 2.25" pipe I wish I would have went with the 2.25". it gives you more power down low where you really need it.

I will let you know how I like the gibsons. they are also suppose to give you more torque down low, with a more even power curve.

If you wanna do flow masters (they do sound awesome) I would do 50 series, or even 70 series.

My system consists of:

-Flowtech Afterburner headers
-True Dual 2.5" pipes
-H-Pipe
-Pair of Flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber mufflers

I used pro equipment to record these. I made shorter versions so you guys with slower connections can hear them. You can hear the big difference in loudness between idle and revving up in the first one.

Revving Up:www.agrimak.com/blazer79/int.mp3 (405KB)

These are NOT the Deltaflow ones, and still the interior sound is not so loud. You can speak at normal levels and still be heard, except maybe if you're talking to someone in the back seat.

I guess you could leave out the cats and still have true duals. This debate could go on forever!

As far as how loud it will be inside, it depends on how much insulation you have.

Mine came with all the nice stuff but without power windows and locks. So, I've got a fair amount of insulation.
My system is headers, back to custom true dual 2 1/2" with 2 50-series flowmasters.
I would never change it for anything. The 40-series is a little too loud for daily driving in my opinion, but the 50's are just a nice rumble at idle, but it will sing to you when you give her some gas. On the highway I can have a conversation with anyone in the back seat

without yelling, but you won't hear anyone when you floor it. It's the best of both worlds.
I would just buck up and spend the money on flowmasters. Many companies claim they sound like them, but I've heard them and they sound cheap. Plus, a flowmaster won't rust out for a long time if ever.
You know they sound good and perform good when people try to copy them.

I've got a mind like a . . . a . . . what's that thing called?

Thanks for all the input. The sound files from Blazer79 were cool!! ( but the 40's sound a little loud for me ) I think I'm gonna spend the extra green and go with the 50's or 70's.

I have 12" glasspacks. I like them becuase they make a deeper tone than anything else I've ever heard. If you complain that Flowmaster 40 series are loud, you don't know the meaning of loud compared to my exhaust.

I want a muffler that doesn't crackle (mine does at really high RPM) but has a deep, bassy tone. Flowmasters only sound good with dumps. Sorry guys, but any of you who have tailpipes on Flowmasters need to lose them. You won't believe the sound. The reason I can't stand tailpipes on Flowmasters is the ringing sound. That's terrible, that ring. That ring becomes a bark if you've got a big cam though.

So, what makes a bassy, deep tone, with tailpipes? I would like it also to be louder than Flowmasters.

I have true duals on my truck, that are turned out right behind the wheels. I like it because it looks stock. My mufflers are two chamber flowmasters and I don't have headers. And it sounds gooood too.

Never put a stupid move passed a stupid person.

I like my side exits because it echos off of stuff! I love it. If the cop wouldn't have seen me do the bridge run, that would have been cool too.

Although I like the sound of my Flowmasters, you're very right about that ringing sound. I was able to hear them before they finished the installation, and WOW, what a difference without tailpipes. I'm thinking about moving the mufflers to the back, right besides the fuel tank. I haven't checked if there's space, but hopefully, there will be.

Why? Is the idea to quiet them down? Why do you want to move them back? I keep trying to move mine FORWARD!

I have a theory that the ringing sound is due to the chambered design. They're designed to "suck" the exhaust gasses from the engine, that's how the chambers work.

Not quiet them down. All I want is to remove the ringing, to "adjust the tone"

.

My theory is that if there is less pipe after the muffler exits, the less ringing there will be.

Too bad I just checked for space, and seems like there isn't any.

I'm running dual Flowmasters with 2 chambers. There about $75 a piece (I know it's not under $50) One thing that you need to take a seriuos look at is installing a balance tube or having the pipes siamesed together. This will help reduce some of the interior resonance that will makes your ears ring after a while.

Go with Flowmasters.... they can be quite while idling yet deep and somewhat loud when you get on it.

Driving would be more fun if there were no paved roads

Anybody know anything that will flat out SCREAM? Flowmasters aren't loud enough for me with tailpipes.

You won't remove the Flowmaster "ring" no matter what you do. Some people call it "The Flowmaster sound". If you want to do anything, move the mufflers FORWARD. At least then it'll be louder.

hey you could go with straight pipes... seen it done on some trucks around here.
