I picked up an 83 K5 a while back and have been slowly making it roadworthy. I've got the 6.2 running great, and am trying to figure out the random wiring that goes everywhere and nowhere. I'm wondering now if it wouldn't just be easier to gut it all out and start over. The EZ wiring kits are pretty cheap, and there is no computer. I understand basic wiring and have wired in radios and trailer plugs, but never an entire vehicle. I've got a current draw somewhere, and things that don't work like the radio and turn signals. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, you have to go over EVERYTHING....

I pulled a bunch of stray wires out of my K5, the first week.
Then, a week later, I pulled my carpet and found 5 more stray wires.
Hot ones.
All of them were live, and just smashed between the carpet padding, and the floorpan.

Pull yer carpet, pull yer dash, check under the hood, under the rig.... EVERYWHERE.
Get a manual, and start chasing the wiring, while following the diagrams.

I bet you find some awesome stuff to complain about... :haha:

I know I did...

I am finally pulling all the p.o. Bs wiring out and rewiring with a painless harness. I am amazed at how many "splices" are just twisted together wires, some weren't even taped over... Horrible, good luck

I feel your pain!!!

I have an 84 that has a lot of awful wiring done by PO's. I pulled out old wiring for car phones, and alpine unit, they even left the box in the inside side panels. Pulled an old old alarm, that was still hooked into the ignition, that was a mess to fix. I have yet to buy a new harness, as this is my daily driver but I pulled easily 20 dead wires, luckily none that were hot.

Start from scratch with an EZ wiring kit, you'll save yourself TONS of time and headache and it will come out much better :thumb:

How does the EZ kit compare to the Painless?

I already have a complete painless kit for my 72' But I was curious as to how it compares to other, probably cheaper options out there.

I am stoked to re-wire this pig, the PO has left me with more than a couple rats nests.
