Another reason not to run a 700-R4

I bet there were no support struts on that t-case. GM put em on there for a reason :smirk:

On the 203 that was in there at the time. There was no brace from factory "No holes in TC for it".

That's interesting. Now I'm wondering where the brace I mod'd to put on the 208 came from. I yanked a 203, had the 400 trans redone, and put in a 208. The brace I had didn't fit. It was both too short and the t/c bolt hole spacing was off. Oh well, that was the '79 and the only thing the rust monster left behind was the powertrain that still sitting on my driveway. And the 8 lug stuff under the '91 :-)

465 is the ONLY wat to go!!! :D

Hence why I have two of them in my basement, one with a 205 behind it and one set up for a 208. Along with two bellhousings, one flywheel, one clutch assenmbly with linkages, etc., Craigslist has been good too me:bow: I know I've asked but where in mass are you

I broke the case something awefull on my scout. I was running a 350/Th350/205 combo and for whatever reason, it broke all to sh*t. It was a brand new rebuild too. Pics below.

That's the most common break. There are aftermarket bellhousings made just to fix that problem.

You may not be able to beat the shear strength of a good manual tranny or a well built th400, but 700r4's can be built to handle up to 500hp.

Its not horsepower that killed it. I am pretty sure it was just my heavy foot, and a lot of abuse in the mud. TRUST me my baby gets beat on, if you aint breaking parts you aint running hard anough. I am about half way through the 465 swap, and I hope that when its all put back together it will survive like my 85 F-250 with a T-18 tranny, 205, and 36in" TSL's. I beat it worse cause I was 17 and stupid, and all I lost one clutch and the only thing I kept breaking were U-joints, everythign else survived. Probably why I am biased to a manual, I couldnt kill it.
