Thanks, we are going to put a thicker pinion shim tonight. We used up our time last night getting it back apart.
I would not touch the pinion. Ring gear needs to be a couple thousands deeper.
What was the backlash with this here?
It was tight, it was .006"
Yeah I’d add some pinion shim.
If your backlash is only .006 now, ad you go deeper on the ring geat, backlash will go away. You will need to go thinner on the pinion but of course, that pulls the pinion out of center on the ring gear. At some point, you will have to find the happy medium.
Whenever you change pinion depth, you will need to readjust backlash.
We decided to try a backlash change since it would be easier to do first.

My 1st reaction was, I liked it better before. After closer consideration not sure I see much change.
The first picture looks better. Not sure what you changed though. Kind of confused.
