Another shock question, and a poll to boot...

What makes you think that? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I know I can't wait to get a set of 5150s on my rig, myself. Ever since the KYB shock rep showed me the inside of a monotube vs. a twin tube, I've been sold. KYB doesn't make a long enough monotube with sufficient travel, but Bilstein sure does. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

anybody know anything about the new edelbrock extreme shock? Peice of junk in a fancy wrapper or decent shock?

I really think piece of junk in fancy wrapper. I can't say for sure, haven't dealt with them, seen them and can't find tech info on them. but thats why I say it, I haven't found real info about whats up with them, makes me think, if they don't put the info out they know someone like me is looking for it to pick it apart. They don't even list valving, they just say "soft" "medium" no numbers. More $$ than Bilsteins too so I said forget that.

Alright, I'm just about convinced. Which ones and where is the best prices? Anyone have part numbers for a six inch lift?

If you're looking at high class bilsteins you're not going ot want to put them in the stock shock mounts. As stated above, get yourself some ford towers for the front and build/buy something for the rear and run the longest travel ones you can find.

I got my mine from eshocks for $99.50 each. It took about 3 weeks to get them though because they were out of stock on one of them. Part #'s are BF5-A187-H1 for the front and BF5-A187-H0 for the rear. This is for a 4 inch lift and I'll be using the Ford shock towers for the front.

I was thinking of going Ford shock towers at some point, guess I might have to move that up the priority list. The rears will have to stay in stock position for now. Eventually I will do the MOO axle truss with an inboard setup I suspect.

I've been resisting the inboarding of the rear and run the gabrials in the stock mounts out back right now. I've really got to get around to that, I'm giving up quite a bit of flex in the rear with these things.

You know that you can make the MOO setup too, you don't need to buy it. It really shouldn't be that bad.

As to the Ford towers, they're less than one hour to install and worth the time. You've made a wise decision to bump those up on the list.

Ok, picked up a set of Ford shock towers from a dealer today. They were $25 for the pair. The dealer told me they are constantly ordering batches of them and sell them like hotcakes, but not to any Ford owners. Go figure.... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Now the question is, what length Bilsteins should I get for the front setup with a six inch lift?

Get the longest ones you can find. You can modify the shock mounts however you want now. Get the ones with the max travel, which is likely 14".

Ok, resurrecting an old post to update. Got the Ford shock towers ready to install. Going to go with Bilstein 5100 or 5150's. Question on the 5150's, will the reservoir cause any problems by hitting the top of the shock tower? Will I have to shave some of the shock tower or is it angled enough that it won't be a problem? Also, I'm running a six inch lift. How about the rear? I have the stock configuration with a Corp14ff? Anybody have any pics of the 5150's installed with the Ford shock tower?

Ive got a set of Bilestien 5100 14" travels Im waiting to install. Damn I need to put my lift and shocks on /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have a 6" ak57 for the rear and 6" skyjacker front springs. I figured with the money Ive spent on the lift I might as well get the best shocks out there.
