I made a joking spur of the moment offer of trading my '77 Chevy K20 complete and running plus the 454 out of my Crew Cab for an '81 GMC 1-ton 4x4 with a 350 in it, and an older Warn 8000lb winch.
He seemed interested. Now I wonder if I should do it. I'm into the '77 truck about $1000 and I was asking 700 for the 454. The 454 I have is a good running one I pulled out of a motorhome with just under 20,000 miles but alot of years. My '77 has a 350/TH350/203, 14-bolt and Dana 44, and some cab rust. The K30 truck only has 3.73 gears, 14-bolt with GovLoc, Dana 60, 350 motor, rebuilt TH400/205 and an ugly camo paint job but no rust just some dents.
The '77.

The '81 1-ton.

Would you trade or not trade?

trade....you know you want to that's why you posted. plus the th400/205 will resale easily enough.

I'm not too worried about paint. If I get it, I'll actually be swapping my '85 K20 body onto this 1-ton frame. Long story short, I lost all the paperwork for the '85 I have and it's mismatched frame... so if I swap everything over to the K30 it'll be a 1-ton and I'll have the '81 paperwork to show the state patrol to have it inspected and titled.

The camo body I'll just sell off piece by piece. It's not rusty at all. Maybe I'll spray paint it flat black or primer first and be able to sell body parts easier.

Hmmm... or maybe I'll put my '87 K30 body on this '81 frame and use the '85 Body on the '83 K30 frame I originally intended to use with '87 body. Did I confuse everyone yet?

TRADE, whats the dana 60 count to now??

wtf?

I want one more 60 to reach my magic number of 15, where I say I will stop.

I guess technically, I paid $750 for the red/white '77 plus $100 in fuel to get it home. I put a good running 350 motor back in it after pulling out and keeping the 454 core out of it. So if I put a $150 value on the 350 motor I'm into the '77 $1000 and kept a 454 core for free minus the time/effort I have into the truck so far.

The 454 I'd also be giving him out of my Crew Cab came out of a $700 motorhome, of which I sold other parts out of so I'm actually into that 454 $320 plus my time of swapping it around. But I also have gotten to use that motor for almost the last year.

Total that would put me into the K30 $1320.

He paid $1200 for the K30 and also gave the guy a 390 and C6 tranny that he had nothing into, and paid $100 for the Warn winch. So he'd be out $1300 cash and what little time/effort he has into the truck so far.

So I guess technically, it would be an even trade. We are into the items equally. He gets a truck with a body of near equivilency... better outward looking but a little rust... and an drivetrain of lesser value. But he also gets a complete running 454 to put into his newly acquired '65 SS Malibu. I end up getting rid of a 454 on top of a complete running K20 truck, but I'm getting a 60 front and TH400/205 and winch which makes up the value difference.

only 1,000 in it ?!

damn dude, lol dont waste anymore time, go trade, hurry up lol

as long as it runs drives good and all

i know i wouldnt have even posted beforehand,

i woulda done traded and be now posting about my fat score :pimp:

and if i were getting that 81 i really owuld go screwing around and swapping bodies and junk, id be leaving it as is and probably repainting and out enjoying the truck rather than wasting $ and time and tons of work
when you get older you get tired of all the crazy work and cost of doing such things, and jut want to enjoy what you have instead of tearing it up

each their own though

good luck :D
