Another stupid 10 bolt question?

I bought a wrecked truck in witch the previous owner installed a detroit locker yukon axles, and a new ring and pinion. This is a rear axle out of a 94 Z-71 with 3.73 G80 Gov bomb option. Would this axle survive 35s and light duty wheeling. I already have a hardcore rig (heep on 37s). It would be going on my 73 Blazer. I plan on using it for rugged back country fishing and camping and need the clearance of 35s to get to the better spots. No climbing waterfalls of rock crawling.
 
sure dewder, like always tho when ya get that close for comfort (10b and 35's), most is gunna be up to driver as far as longjevity

Most likely. Just know that its pretty common for them to blow up on the street with totally stock trucks. Others seem to hold up ok.
 
It will survive. i bet you will smash a u-joint first thart is if everything inside the pumking was installed right.

I dunno, I've got 164k on a fully stock one in my Yukon without a hiccup, though the gov-bomb doesn't seem to work. No growling, no clunking, no nothing. And that is miles in the sand, wheel lifting 4x4ing, towing the Jimmy and countless drifting corners in the snow. That being said, I am looking for an 88-up 14bsf to swap in, but it can wait.
 
With a Detroit and Yukons, it should be stronger than stock, making it OK for strength on 35's if you take it easy. My question would be whether or not you want 3.73. If you are faced with putting money into it for gears, you might consider selling that "built" 10-bolt to buy a bigger rear end with 4.56.

But IMHO, a Detroit and Yukons in a 10-bolt is not a terrible setup

3/4 tons might be the way to go. I will probably just run it for now on 32s. I am doing a TBI motor swap right now and I do not have any budget for better axles right now.
 
10 bolt

Just after I bought my 89 totally stock 10 bolts 3.08's with the gov lock and running 31's, it blew up in the parking lot at the grocery store. Lord knows what kind of abuse it took from the P.O.'s (2 prior owners)though. I have replaced it with a 14bff for now, but really want to restore this truck over the years. Right now it's a daily driver and will see light wheeling on the weekends. I am hesitant to go back with the gov lock, but would be pretty confortable with your set up. Especially if you remember what you have under your rear end and go easy on it.
 
I didn't think you could put a detroit in a G80 gov bomb carrier....are you sure its a detroit?
 
that should hold up to 35s perfectly fine.you have already upgraded the weak parts of the rear end.front should hold up as long as you are easy on it in four wheel drive.
 
I wouldn't hesitate to do what you're describing with it. Running a 10.5" axle back there will just kill all the clearance you gain from the 35"s. A 14bff with 35"s brings the suck and is wickedly overkill. The 10b in my DD has 185k on the bearings and seals and I've towed with it, carried atvs, wheeled with 34" LTBs, etc.

I don't beat on it like my trail rig but I've never cringed expecting it to break either.
