Guys I got it bad, I haven’t even bought the truck yet (hopefully today) and I’m already thinking about upgrades. This truck will see the desert (Anza Borrego) a lot and soon. I know it needs new tires anyways. It has 235/85-16s road tires now. I know I will be getting Cooper ATRs or STs, D or E rated. What I don’t know is size. I don’t want to have to lift it right away and I want to run the stock rims. (I know I’m sick but I love stock rim even hub caps)
Do you guys think a 285/75-16 or 255/85-16 will fit this truck without a lift?
Bone stock 89 3/4ton suburban.

Yes, those tires will fit stock. Since you'll be in the desert you want the 285/75R16's. Good luck...but loose the running boards.

I'm sure the running boards will remove them selves soon enough. My wife is only 4'8 so she likes the boards. So when they self eject on a rock i didn't see ;) she won't want to spend the 500+ to replace them.

Both will fit on teh stock rim, w/o lift. I like teh hub caps too, but only on the stock size tire.

Personally, i'd search craigslist and find a set of newer 8 lug chevy or dodge stock wheels. The common nice dodge stocks's are 17's with 265/7017's. There are some stock 17" chevy ones, but they are rare in teh same tire size.

I ran some chevy ones i paid $250 for for a while. If you are patient, you can save a boat load of $$$ over buying new tires.

I believe the newer Dodge ones have a decent bit more backspacing than our older 8 lug GM trucks need. Not to mention no hole for the front hubs.

Possibly, but i've seen them run on 90's 3/4 ton's w/o problems. Also, you can either not run the front cap, or cut a hole in it.

90's are IFS don't forget...remember you owned one. No locking hub sticking out of the front.

The last Dodge 16" 8 lug wheel I measured had over 5" of backspacing, that would definitely cause troubles. At the very least he'd have to adjust his steering stops to keep the d-side tire off the drag link like I did with Big Ugly. Frankly not worth it in his situation.

What? If its 2wd, its IFS, correct. But i see auto hubs sticking out in the front. And 4x4 burbs, including my 91, were SFA through 91.

I think we're confusing each other here, I thought you meant 90's as in 92-99 body style burbs like our Blazers and your Suburban.

At any rate I wouldn't recommend the Dodge wheels for what he wants to do unless someone has some with 4-5" of backspacing and a hole big enough for the hub to fit through. All that I've seen wouldn't fit that criteria.

Got it. When i said 90's i meant the IFS ones.....but meaning that the backspacing from the IFS to SFA trucks seems to be similar, as i've run 8 lug wheels from IFS trucks before.

Yep, I have 2007 GMC van steelies on Big Ugly.

However the Dodges have higher backspacing than GM's. All GM 3/4+ trucks have 4-5" or so of backspacing. Dodge seems to have around 5" at a minimum and the last set I saw was over 5.5". I want to say 5.75"? WAY too much.
