Ok so I got this winch a long time ago used and it had no instructions and I cant find them on warns site. It is a warn 12000 industrial winch and I have no clue any help would be much appreciated. I know that the brown wire runs down to the bolt on the bottom of the motor, which I assume is where the ground wire goes to.

Also where does the white wire in the control box go to.

Quick educated guess:
Battery positive cable goes where you see the + symbol on the relay box.
White wire goes on the same terminal.

Green and black go on the two spade connections.
One is forward, one is back.
You will just have to hook them up randomly, and bump the switch. If the winch goes the wrong way, reverse them.

Oh, and it looks like the armature cable is loose, better check it.

Ok thats what I thought just wasnt sure and yes the wire is loose.
I think Im just going to Use a toggle switch in the cab for now cause I dont have a controller right now.

Thats all their controller is.
A single pole, double throw switch. Momentary on both sides with center off.
Hook the white wire up to the common, green to one side, black to the other.

All the winches I have wired up, used a dash mounted switch just like that.
If the person whose truck I was mounting it on was a real expert who had had several trucks with winches on them, I would sometimes use a switch that was momentary only in one direction.
That way, they could bump it backwards, and latch it on in the pulling direction.

That made it a lot easier for them if they were by themselves.
They could just start the winch pulling, and have both hands to drive the truck.
