I am thinking about welding a small plate right in front of where my top bolts on. It would be on the windsheild frame like right here

Good?

Bad?

Indifferent?

I just don't want to have to unscrew my antenna everytime I take my top off, of course if I do that the idea is to mount it to my top in the wintertime and the roll bar in the summer time.

What if you made a bracket to mount it behind the roll ba and when you have your top on it'll just be bent over a little?? Would this make it not pick up as good?

Just an idea. As for where you wanted it mounted would it be easier to break off there due to low limbs??

I have thought about that but the bracket would have to hang down about 2" from the rollbar I crawl back there all the time to get stuff I garunteeee that I would bash my head on it.

Anywhere on the roof makes it vulnurable to branches but please keep the ideas coming.

Right now I am thinking put a big metal plate on the top, just sheet metal and mount the anttena right there then unplug and remount on the roll bar when I take the top off. The metal will help when the top is on right?

You can also buy a foldover to screw into the mount .

If you want to put the top on and off , your going to have to do a bumper or bedside mount , both vunerable to damage .

Can't have good performance , and protection , if you really wheel .

A flexy wire whip , through a hole in the top , will probably flex well with branches . Since the roll bar and top will be seperated a little , and the whip will flex against the top , not putting pressure on the mount .

Just need to install top , and then put whip through hole ( with a little holr plug gasket type thingy ) .

Will the whip type antennae still flex with a little sticking out the top??? I thought it flexed from the spring end?? I haven't used one personally so i have no idea.

I meant where the top mounts to the bedside. like behind the drivers or passenger seat and behind the rollbar

EDIT: like here for example.

I seee, would this be a problem with the top on would it still transmit, would my range be greatly reduced?

My antenna is mounted on the drivers fender in the fender/hood seam right next to the hood hinge. I also used a somewhat soft spring for easier flex when it hits obstacles.

if you are not looking for major wattage out put from your radio the smaller fender mount would work best. now if you are wanting to push a lot of power so you can talk over twenty miles then it will not work. i am looking at building a swinging tire rack and bumper with a mounting place for my 35000 watt striker antenna . i will be running a galaxy 33 and a 1000 watt footwarmer to get an extra mile or two. what i am saying is unless you are going to push a lot of power location is not as crucial as how long it will last in that location.
