Sounds like it might actually work!

Cliff notes;

Rub the anti seize on headers like shoe polish.

Bolt them onto the motor and "heat cycle" them a few times.

End up with a hard, non flaky, aluma coating type coating.

if you want the look of a set of alumna coated headers try this ......

what you'll need :

buy a good size bottle of permatex anti-seize either silver , stainless steel ,nickle , or copper ...............stainless steel or copper give it a competition style stainless look

old cotton t-shirt or cloth diaper

foam paint applicators or rollers available from home depot or lowes

steps to follow :

prepping the header for the anti seize

media blast the headers to get the rust or other contaminants off of the metal then clean with metal prep solution or brake clean to remove any oil residue

follow steps as mentioned below to coat the headers and to cure them

1] with a clean cotton t-shirt or clean cotton diaper apply some anti-seize to the header and wipe it onto the metal kinda like how you would apply shoe polish to your shoes

2] coat the entire header with anti-seize using the t-shirt,diaper or foam applicator pad and do at least 3 coats on ea header waiting 15-30 minutes between applications .......what you're trying to do is get a nice even coat of anti-seize onto the header without any brush strokes or runs/drips ,apply the anti seize almost like you're apply shoe polish on your shoes

3] now before installing them onto your motor put them into a trash bag with the open end of the bag near the header flange /cyl head and install them onto your motor

4] once installed remove the garbage bag and start the motor up ....when they start smoking turn the engine off and wait 10-15 minutes then repeat this process of heating and cooling 3-4 more times until the smoke diminishes

5] once they're heat cured the headers will have a look of being alumna coated and will look very nice for many years ........... you will only need to touch them up with more anti-seize every year or so and that's near the header flange were the primary pipes mount to it .when you do the touch up just repeat the process you were doing when 1rst installed ........steps #1 thru #4

This is very interesting... So the lubricants and solvents burn off and leave only the Aluminum in place, which protects the steel from corrosion. Now we need some long-term reports. And a comparison to see whether anti-seize works better than BBQ paint.

If it's so cheap, why don't header manufacturers offer "Aluminum coating" for an extra $50 or something?

Hmmm, interesting. Id like to see the long term as well. but how much does a tube of it cost ( I didnt read the article yet), also how much does it take per header?

Guys in one of those threads were saying $5.

I got a case of Copper antiseize I'll have to try it

I'll have to pull them off the truck and blast them first

I'm definitely gonna try it though, I mean really whats it gonna hurt if it doesn't work.

I've tried all types off stove paint it doesn't work

Wow that is a fantastic idea!!! I use anti seize on everything and its hard to get off your fingers let alone being baked onto some headers. I bet the copper antiseize would be cool because it will give it copper look.... Hmm

Or just do it outside and wait inside :dunno:

Hey Gus... I bet it would be awesome on a turbo too.

Turbos get to hot, I use Copper anti-seaze at work on exhaust and turbo bolts it burns off as soon as the Pyro gets to around 800 or so
