I've got an 03 Cadillac Escalade that I'm turning into my next offroad toy. One of the issues I need to deal with is the active suspension system. I can technically just install resistors to fool the system into thinking all is well, but I'd rather just eliminate it entirely.

Now, apparently I can do this by removing the RPO from the BCM for the active suspension system with the Tech 2. I read I should be able to go into the diagnostics section containing the BCM, access the special functions section and run an RPO reprogramming function. Unfortunately, I don't see that option anywhere. There is also supposed to be a function to reprogram the SDM (airbag module) part number and that is missing as well. I also tried finding an option to re-flash the BCM via TIS2000 (03.2008) and it isn't even in the list. Neither with the SDM.

My Tech 2 has the GM 33.004 version on it (which I understand is the latest).

Is there something I am doing wrong? Maybe a different software load for Cadillac vs Chevy or GMC on the Tech 2?

I run a small Chevy service dept. I've not seen where we can add or remove RPO's from the BCM with just the Tech2. Normally any actual programming happens on a 2003 truck using the Tech2 as an interface to a desktop pc using TIS2WEB (formerly TIS2000). Even then, we would usually have to call into Techline to have the calibration modified to reflect the updated option content by assigning a new VCI number to program with. Keep this in mind, in my experience GM has not been too keen on adding or subtracting options to a vehicle after it's been built. If I was to call and ask from our store they would probably shut me down. They will do it for accessory installs like 20" wheels or other accessory items.

You might try going in with the Tech2 getting into the BCM and try going to "module setup" in special functions. You might be able to alter things by dropping the offending option code for the active handling. I remember the module setup feature being there when replacing instrument clusters for the common issue of the analog needles hanging up in various positions and stop working. On those, if we did not go through module setup (within the instrument cluster section, not BCM) and add in the correct option codes trucks equipped with steering wheel controls would have them stop working.

I'd look within the Tech2 for the module setup and see if it will let you in.

You don't need a specific software loaded to your Tech2 for Cadillac vs Chevy. If you got the latest, that's what we have. GM has moved on to another platform away the Tech2 for a PC based system called GDS2 so they have stopped supporting the Tech2 making new updates.

Now another option would be to fake it. By that I mean using a vin that was not equipped with the active suspension option and program the BCM with that vin so it does not look for it. You would have to go to a dealer to do that. Explaining what you want to do to some service adviser might have them look at you like you have a horn growing out of your forehead. Before you think about this path, I'd have to look to make sure having the wrong vin in the BCM won't trigger something stupid in the security to happen when the modules compare vins. Being a 2003 with just a basic Passlock system it may not make a difference, but I would have to review the service manual to be sure. You would have to find a VIN to use that didn't have it. I'm not sure how many were built without active suspension or if they all had it.

I can ask my senior tech too just to be sure at work tomorrow.

I have access to TIS2WEB as well as an MDI if required, but I'm sure your right that GM certainly won't issue a VCI for me to turn their cadillac into an offroad toy lol!

if I am unable to just adjust the option load, then I will most likely wind up doing resistors and leaving the factory compressor & control module in place. Another possibility would be a brand new BCM from GM. I know they must have the option load configured by the tech 2 to work. I don't think they are terribly expensive either.

Thanks for your help!
